The Savage SR15 Recon LRP is a AR15-style, direct-impingement "modern sporting rifle" with a bit of a twist. It has, unlike a standard AR, an 18-inch barrel in order to optimize velocities and accuracy. It also features a "softer-shooting" mid-length adjustable gas system, a two-stage trigger, and a free-float handguard. This rifle is chambered in 224 Valkyrie, a .22 caliber rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge developed by Federal Premium in 2017 in order to rival the performance of the .22 Nosler. The 224 Valkyrie is capable of achieving velocities approaching 3,500 FPS and generating muzzle energy in excess of 1,500 ft/lb. Proponents claim significant ballistic advantages over the standard 5.56 NATO.

Excellent rifle by Savage! Shoots very accurate! Zeroed it and was making hits on steel at 500yds straight out of the box!

Unfortunately, this rifle has not shot accurately since the day I bought it in March 2020. I expected 1 MOA groups or better from 100 yds from a rest. I've shot 250 rounds, using every available bullet weight, I've replaced the scope, cleaned the gun completely, and checked for barrel contact from hand rest. I now have an email in to Savage to see what they will say. My after the purchase expensive nternet research on this issue indicates several others have had issues, but most folks have had great accuracy. I'm at the mercy of savage customer service at this point.

As I’ve always experienced, Bud’s delivers. Product price is at the lowest found. The Savage MSR 15 Recon LRP is as pretty looking in person as the photos depict. Fit & finish on this gun is excellent. Forged lower looks at billet quality. Trigger is awesome, light and crisp. Recoil is less than a 223 upper installed on this same lower (not sure if this is due to muzzle break, ammo and or adjustable gas port). Not sure about accuracy at distance (still waiting on back ordered Vortex Diamondback Tactical in 6-24x50) but at 25 yards with inexpensive 5 MOA red/green dot it appears to be accurate enough that I think it will extend fine. Savage build is top notch and another manufacturer upper installed shoots perfectly fine without any issues. The bolt carrier group and charging handle seem entry level but work fine (no issues) and they can easily be upgraded to better, later.
