Solid pistol, well made, reliable, and fun to shoot. However, do not dry fire it! I like to dry fire my guns to get used to handling, trigger pull, reset, etc. Generally this is not an issue. However, this pistol breaks firing pins regularly and quickly if dry fired without a snap cap in place. Once I started using snap caps the problem went away. Century replaced the firing pins under warranty (I had three break on two different guns) but shipping sometimes took several weeks. Since one has to dry fire the SF version of the gun to take it down this is an issue, especially since less than 50 dry fires resulted in pin breakage on one occasion. Perhaps this is the real reason for the SA and DA versions? I still really like the gun, just don't dry fire them.

I acquired the TP9SF 9mm from Bud's in April of 2017. I've purchased from Bud's before and have always had a professional experience. I can recommend Bud's and you can buy from them with confidence. I'm going to do the pros and cons because the pistol has both, but I'm going to start with the cons first because that is what most people care about. The Cons; I purchased this gun because the company was awarded a manufacturing certification (ISO 9000) on their original TP9. That appealed to me because I thought that it would give me a high quality item for a low cost. The original certification (if you are familiar with it) is not applied to their (Canik) new products, so if you are buying the gun for that then take note; you are not getting a pistol that is manufactured to that level of quality control. Here it is; THE GUN RATTLES AND JAMS. The rattle is because the slide is machined with very loose tolerances and as a result actually moves side to side on the lower rails. Folks it does not take much side to side movement to get a jam or a failure. I have experienced regular jams, failure to feed, failure to eject, and double feeds. How many? 1 per magazine or 2. Far too many considering most handguns will fire hundreds if not thousands without failures like these. The trigger is gritty and will not depress unless you pull it directly backward. There is a paddle-style safety lever on the trigger and it is larger and much more obtrusive then others that you may be familiar with (glock, springfield xd, ect). This trigger pull has a noticeable amount of take up, followed by a noticeable single action wall. Further pressing on the trigger will yield a very crisp and deliberate break. The problem is that you must align your finger on the trigger in a very deliberate way (directly in front and inline with the center line of the pistol) otherwise the trigger will not depress due to the safety paddle not disengaging. If you have any sideways pressure or angular pressure on the trigger, the trigger will not move. If you do successful depress the trigger, it is a very gritty unpolished feeling. Again...a sign of poor quality control. So I sent the gun back to the distributor (Century Arms) and I told them that my expectation was to fix it or replace it. I wont bore you with the details of that experience, but I can tell you that they neither fixed it nor replaced it. So I have a very mediocre pistol in my possession and I'm considering whether or not to sell it away. So in summary of the cons; this is not a quality pistol. It is not manufactured with good quality control in a very critical area (the slide rails). You will experience failures with this piece and it cannot be counted on for personal defense or home defense. But you can and should use it for target practice and that leads me to the pros. The Pros. This gun (TP9SF) comes shipped in a hard plastic case with 2 magazines, a serpa-style paddle holster, cleaning brush, and a magazine loader. The magazines are very nice and well made and are of the type with viewing holes cut into the back so you can see how may rounds are in the mag. The holster works very well and also seems to be well made. The gun has a lot of good qualities. The most important feature for me was the SINGLE ACTION TRIGGER. If this is important to you, it does have it and dose give you tha ability to place very precise shots on target and hence would be very good as a "target" gun. The grip and ergonomics of the gun are very good. I would describe it as a cross between a Walther and HK without the finger grooves. More European in looks then American, but I like the way it feels in my hand. The other reviewer described it as "small". This is not a small gun. It is full sized and I would say it is very similar in size to the Springfield XDm 4 or 5 in models. The sights that come with the gun are also good. The front sight is a white dot, but the back is framed in white horizontal markings that also add to its value as a target gun. The slide is cerokoted and the finish is acceptable. So in summary of the pros; this gun (TP9SF) comes in a nice kit and it has good ergonomics and features for an affordable price. Review summary; I would not recommend this pistol. You can get a much better gun for about the same amount of money. In today's day and age, it is unacceptable for the slide rails and trigger mechanisms to be manufactured to this poor quality. There is way too much completion out there to make those kinds of mistakes. Century and Canik (if you are listening) you might want to take note. If you are looking around for a gun with these features, then check out a Springfield Armory XD or XDm, Walther PPQ, Beretta APX, HK VP9 ect (precocked striker fired mechanism)

Simple review--this gun is better than a Glock at $200 less. Better grip, better trigger, just better, and yes I have 4 Glocks.

Overall, my purchase of the TP9 SF was about as good as I think it could possibly be. The gun was at my chosen dealer within a week. And the folks at G&L Pawn in Fitzgerald GA were as nice and helpful as could be. As far as the gun itself, it is hands down the smoothest shooting and accurate full-size handgun I've shot. I easily hit targets at 30 yards. The trigger is everything and more than expected from the reviews I had read on this gun. I will be using Bud'sGunShop for all my firearm purchases in the future.

I purchased this gun because of the great reviews and I have not been disappointed! I put 100 rounds through it the day I picked it with the cheapest ammo(aluminum) I could find, right out of the box the gun functioned flawlessly. I'm very happy with this purchase. I found the magazines easier to load by hand than with the included loader, not that the loader is bad, the magazines just load very smoothly all the way to 18 rounds. I ordered this on Saturday night and picked up at my FFL Wednesday at lunch.

I just got back from the range and am quite impressed with the quality, accuracy and" feel" of the TP9SF! Wish I brought more than 160 rounds for my first time with it as its a fun gun to use.

A:A heavy 1.8lbs. Its a good heavy though, top heavy. It actually helps you get back on target faster after recoil cause the barrel naturally drops back down faster. Its heavy, but comfortable.See 2 more answers |
