Smith & Wesson Model 29 Classic 4" 44mag Revolver - 6 Rounds, 4" Barrel, Blue/Black, 3-Dot Sights

This is not what I expected. The bluing had polish marks, the machining had tool marks, the forcing come looked chiseled off. Smith & Wesson should feel ashamed at the end product. I would happily pay more for a better product.

Many moons ago, I was lucky enough to own two S&W .44 magnum revolvers, one a late 70’s model 29 with 6 1/2 barrel, and an early 90’s .44 classic DX. Both were phenomenally beautiful Guns. Just purchased this new “classic” .44 in 4”, and so far it’s everything I’d expected and/or wanted. My only gripe sorta, are thinner grips, but nothing I can’t get used to since I’ll be shooting mostly .44 Special through this. Fit and finish is top notch, bluing is very nice, sights are as expected and really, a very well balanced handgun. It just feels good. The key lock doesn’t bother me personally. It is what it is. I have to say that this is the second firearm I’ve purchased from Buds, and it won’t be the last. Crazy fast shipping, communication and tracking from the minute it was ordered. Very, very happy with this new S&W from their “classic” line.

I wiped down and lubed this when I received it, and added a rubber grip. This firearm is beautiful; the bluing has a mirror-like finish. The wood grips are good-looking, but not practical for shooting. At the range I ran a few dozen rounds through it; a few loaders of 240 gr soft point, but mostly 180 gr soft point. This thing is accurate, and the sights are dead on out of the box; first shot single action I pegged the X at 25 yards. Single action trigger has no creep whatsoever; it breaks clean. Double action is a bit stiff, but I'm hoping it'll smooth out with use. Recoil is substantial with the four inch barrel, especially with the heavier-grained bullets. Even with the rubber grip, I wore shooting gloves, because the back strap is exposed. This bad boy is not as heavy as its main competition, which does make it easier to carry, but you need to deal with the recoil. I ordered some new leather for this one 'cause I'm gonna carry with 180 gr xtp or 165 gr hp. Is it worth the money?? I say yes. The only thing I would change is the grip mount; yes, I know it's a "classic," but finding a rubber grip to cover the back strap would be easier. In short, an outstanding firearm.

Superb revolver that lives up to the Smith & Wesson name. An absolute must own for any 44 fan, or anyone looking for some serious firepower. First, the bluing is excellent and the wood grips look truly gorgeous. Second, the balance feels just right, allowing for perfect handling and fast target acquisition that never feels unnatural or clumsy. Third, the trigger is very smooth, and the single action is the best of any revolvers I own. Fourth, it is devastatingly accurate. Of course this assumes you will have spent as much time practicing with 44 Magnum. Firing 240gr Magnum loads I was able to maintain very tight groups repeatedly. As to the negatives? I would say there are none. What about the key lock? I say who cares. It is barely noticeable, and if you do not like it then do not use it. The best 44 Magnum I own. Highly recommended to fellow Buds customers.

have always wanted a M29. I am disappointed. The cylinder does not spin freely as it should when opened. I have called Smith & Wesson, but have yet to get a response. In my opinion this a major flaw. I have read on some forums about this issue, and it seems to be common on this model with a 4" barrel. Hope this gets resolved asap.

I have wanted one of these for years. I finally bit the bullet and ordered one. Looks fantastic. Another gun I can take great care of and pass down in the family.

This is the second model 29 Classic that I have purchased from Buds. Ordered on Monday, received it on Thursday. The complete experience with Buds has been first rate! Both revolvers are of excellent quality. I'm going to purchase a Winchester '73 next... from Buds of course...

I buy all my firearms from buds, I use their layaway 95% of the time and this time was no different. I paid this layaway off and 3 weeks later I inquired aabout my purchase only to be told that they didnt know why my handgun hadn;t shipped yet and they promised it would ship ASAP well 4 days later it shipped!! My ffl calls and states this firearm is ready for pickup, as stated i buy ALL my firearms from buds and never an issue EVER!! I arrive open the box firearm looks great as always and i proceed with transfer,,,, BIG MISTAKE!!! ALWAYS ALWAYS inspect your new firearm because this on wasnt new it had a cracked grip, buggered screws,and had a scope mounted on it at some point. Buds is taking care of me and so is Smith and Wesson ( Lets hope). I will continue to buy from Buds, they have taken care of me over MY MISTAKE of not fully inspecting. I'm a little set back with S&W, they say this was a new firearm, if this was new and allowed to leave the factory like this, SHAME ON THEM!!
