It usually sits within arms reach in a vertical rack next to my desk and is my go to for home defense. These have always been reliable rifles, but the accuracy is much improved in this newer 5800 series. I bought one with a wood stock and put a scope on it. I liked it so much that I bought this one to have one with iron sights. The older Mini-14 didn't come close the the accuracy of these. I highly recommend this rifle.

I have the mini’s relatives in 30-06 and 308 and perhaps just wanted to have the set. Who knows? Only the mini’s mother could argue against the AR being the superior firearm-AR’s can claim better pricing on many base models, better optics mounting options, better triggers, better controls, cheaper mags, quicker mag changes, comparable accuracy when comparing current and relative production models and more and cheaper accessories. I know-If I could only choose one-God forbid! However, my gun safe has room for more than one boom stick. The advantages of the mini are more based on overall feel and aesthetics. The mini is wonderfully light and slender-Round and alluring in the hand. It cases neatly and discreetly for vehicle and scabbard use. The mini feels much better than an AR slung over the shoulder. I find it much faster to get accurate aim for quick first shots on varmints with its’ ability for proper cheek weld. It is my preferred 223 to take around the property. I find it imminently more attractive than my AR’s. It is just plain fun to rack the bolt on WWII type semi autos. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure, just wait until you get to slap the bolt handle to complete a reload! In my experience, the mini-14 is AK reliable. The GI style sights are wonderfully quick and accurate. All that said, I tend to say, gun folks do way over think our toys. The military is thinking that when thousands of soldiers use an AR, the milliseconds of time saved with the wonderfully ergonomic controls will save lives in a large aggregate population pool. However, for the single civilian that finds the Mini appealing, it is plenty quick, accurate and reliable enough for to do the job. In a sample set of one, I’d say training, character and confidence trump the millisecond advantages of a particular tool. A shooter ought to definitely shoot a practical rifle course faster with an AR than the Mini, but one must ask themself how useful is that when a defensive situation will only require a few rounds. I love my Mini and would argue when we compare and then deem the AR vastly superior to the Mini-14, that we are discounting the forest for all the trees.

Always wanted one. Buds had them good price. Quality weapon. Dead nuts out of the box. This is the one they will pry my cold dead fingers from. Ruger, made in USA. I learned to hunt from Ww2 survivors some used m1 garrands same action and were serious deer hunters. In there 70s. They used to say bring a sandwich bc we’ll be gone all day. Humping the Andirondacks of upstate ny you better bring 3. Young blood.

Total beast. Functions flawlessly….remarkably accurate out of the box shooting without optics. Love the aperture rear sight. Bud’s did a great job processing everything.

this ruger arrived quickly and in new condition, i have only fired about 50 rds at this point and it has functioned flawlessly. foolproof and reliable design. what else can i say?

Bud's actually had the model I was looking for in stock, and it was $125 - $200 cheaper than local sources who would have had to special order. I was a little leery of buying a gun online since I had never done it before (and live in a state that discourages personal freedom), but the process went well and I would gladly do it again. Shipping was cost effective, and fast.
Ruger makes a fine piece. Very accurate with iron sights, cleaning was easy. It ejects the casings some 5-10 yards out, but it's a minor inconvenience (unless of course your an unaware bystander). I'd honestly take this rifle over an AR style 223 any day, though I am not into all the rails and gadgetry. Make sure to use authentic Ruger magazines. I experimented with a cheap off brand to see if it would work, and like many others have said online, it was problematic. Spend the money and get the real factory magazine, she's finicky without it.

This is a fantastic product. Since purchasing this firearm I have put easily 500 rounds of both 5.56 and .223 ammo through my mini 14 and have yet to experience anything kind of mechanical issues with it. It has been dragged to the range and through the woods numerous times and it still cycles every round without fail. It's very easy to strip and clean so maintenance is a breeze. The firearm shipped quickly and was delivered to my local FFL in a timely manner, so a huge thumbs up to Buds gun shop. The one "WARNING" I will issue to anyone purchasing this firearm regard the stock ghost ring sights. During my first 100 or so rounds the rear ring sight came loose and kicked itself sideways, but before you use this as an excuse to write off the mini 14 know that the fix is easy and the tool to fix the problem comes with the firearm. All that you need is the small Allen wrench which adjusts the sights to tighten the rear sight back into place and you're good. Since readjusting and tightening I've had no troubles with the sights at all and the firearms shoots straight and true out past 100 yards. I love this firearm and I would highly recommend checking it out if you are looking for a solid and reliable AR alternative.

Nicely done rifle with no flaws on metal or stock . Buds price and 6 month layaway clinched my purchase . Rifle shoots well with reloads with some experimenting . The norm is 1 1/16" to 1 1/2" at 100 yds for 3 shot groups . Depending on the load used . You will have to do some load testing to get this . Considering it is a semi auto my results have not been bad . Its no long range tack driver like a bolt action rifle . But for close in work on predators or deer a nice handy rifle . Happy with my purchase .

Buds shipping was fast and service second to none, used their lawsuit on many purchases and just love it. The mini 14 had a few problems with ejecting at fist but after 20 rounds those problems corrected them self. I have now doubts that Ruger would stand behind their product if I did have any issues. Love the mini 14, in my opinion better then an AR anytime.

Sorry, I just got it last night and haven't fired it yet. But I will say that Bud's, as usual, was true to their word on price, the correct weapon and delivered as promised. I will continue to buy from Bud's..whenever the wife either lets me- or isn't looking. Chuck South Carolina

Fantastic little carbine. Wish I had bought one sooner. Read a lot of complaints about bad accuracy but no issues here with the newer style gun. I am a first time buyer and Buds was wonderful in their business transaction. Will absolutely use again in the near future. Thanks guys

What can I say...it's a Ruger Mini14...it's reputation precedes it!! Fires smoothly with little recoil. No failures so far and don't expect any. Purchasing from Buds was great as always! They saved me about $95 over a local price. If you've always wanted one of these..GET IT!!...from Buds!

This is a really nice carbine that is well-made. It shoots both .223 Rem and NATO 5.56 and does not have issues with steel casings. A great alternative to the AR-15 and is legal in states that ban AR's. This rifle comes with both scope rings and a Picatinny rail. It also came with two magazines and a nice lock. This gun will also accept larger capacity magazines. It has swivel rings for a sling, but they are non-removable. A sling with hook clasps allow quick removal. This rifle allows for smooth disassembly for cleaning.

First off I just wanted to say that dealing with Buds is always a pleasure. I never go to a gun store to purchase weapons anymore because Buds is so great. I have purchased 5 guns through Buds and every single transaction has been perfect. Thanks Buds. Now for the rifle... Man this thing is awesome. With the AR craze this rifle is pretty refreshing. Installed a barrel strut and an M14 style flash hider on it and in now looks like a genuine mini M14. I use my M1A and my son uses this one and we both have a blast. Ruger makes a great product. Extremely satisfied.
