I'm no expert on long guns at all, I'm a pistol guy. That being said I am more than impressed with this gun already. The fit, finish and function are great. I've cycled numerous "snap caps" through it with no hangups whatsoever. Although I haven't yet fired it, I have full confidence that it will function just fine. The overall feel of the gun is extremely good and solid which for the low price point is really quite surprising. This was my second purchase from Buds and I'm hooked.

This shotgun does everything a $200 shotgun should do, it shoots! I've shot around 250 rounds of birdshot, buckshot, and slugs through without a single malfunction. The sights aren't bad, I painted a white dot on the front sight, which helped a lot. Side by side, I could hardly tell a difference between this and an 870. I hear a lot about the recoil being harsh on this particular gun, but it isn't bad at all. Definitely recommended.

This shotgun is a work horse, it is as good as my remington 870, handles slugs, buckshot, and magnum loads fine, it does what it is suppose to do, It works!

My order shipped just over a week after it was placed; I picked up my shotgun from PCA on a Wednesday evening and thoroughly disassembled and cleaned it that night. I feared having to deal with a large quantity of cosmoline, but was pleasantly surprised by the simple light coat of packing grease that covered all metal components. I removed this grease, thoroughly cleaned the barrel with solvent and numerous patches, and applied RemOil to all surfaces. I paid particular attention to lubricating the action, and worked it numerous times to evenly distribute lubricant. I am very pleased with the smoothness of the 982's action; it does not feel gritty, sticky, or grating in any way, and cycles easily for follow-up shots. The first time I fired my shotgun was at an abandoned surface mine myself and others frequent for plinking. We shot a box of cheap Estate birdshot through it, alternating between single loads and use of the five-round tube magazine. No problems were experienced aside from two FTEs by my shooting partner; I believe these were both caused by short-stroking, as this was her first experience with a pump shotgun and has not been repeated since. I do not believe this to have been due to an issue with the 982. Both FTEs were easily cleared by depressing the action release and working the action to eject the spent shells. We also fired five Remington Slugger 1oz rifled slugs in the same afternoon, two single-loaded and three magazine-fed. Recoil was a bit stiff but not unbearable with the slugs; the 982's recoil pad mitigates much of the recoil force. I do not believe that recoil would be a problem in a defensive shooting. With birdshot, recoil is quite mild. The second time we took this shotgun out, we fired 25 rounds of Remington target shells, which were a bit difficult to load into the magazine, and left brass residue on the barrel extension. I will not be using these again, especially given that the Estate shells fed better for significant less cost per shell. I fired four rounds of Estate that same day, with none of these issues. Some wear is apparent on the bolt, and the rear ghost-ring sight NEEDS to be Loctited down or it WILL fly off to parts unknown (to be found an hour later), but neither of these are severe problems. I rate this shotgun five stars!

I was reluctant on getting a Chinese clone of the 870, but too many good reviews let me know this was a solid workhorse. It really is a heavy 870 and I am a sucker for ghost sights. For the price could not resist and like the 870.. easy maintenance. Ate the target loads I put through it in the video without any issues, takes aftermarket crap for 870, but I thin I will leave it be. need a 5 1 that is reliable... can't go wrong with. It did, however, come with cosmoline and some debris, clean it good prior to range time.
