received in good condition, entire contents of carton covered with dust from the box. easily mistaken for rust but wiped off with rag. the dust was reddish brown from the box but not rust as previously noted. the blueing was in perfect condition (rust removers such as navel jelly will remove blueing). I have not fired yet but am very happy with the gun and its versatility. I have several handi rifles and pardner shotguns and like them a lot. would recommend to anyone.

Very disappointed with purchase. Rifle was packaged dry, no oil or preservative. Both barrels had surface rust that was easily removed with a oil and a paper towel but there is little bluing left. Both barrels have significant tooling marks in the bore. First time I cocked the hammer at the range, there was a "snap" and the hammer would not lock back.Something broke inside the receiver. I've owned three H&R Handi-Rifles 15 years ago; 223 Rem, 30-30 Win, and 444 Marlin, and all went back to the factory for something. I see nothing has changed and Remington sure is not making them any better. So, I guess this will go to back if H&R hasn't closed it's doors. When it arrives, it will be immediately placed on my FFL's consignment rack. Good luck with your purchase, this is a very cheaply made firearm.

This is a really nice rifle and I like the new (35 Remington) caliber. These rifles shoot wonderful and I recommend them for all types of hunting.
