What makes California compliant different from any other Wasr? Is is just the grip? Is everything else the same?

Yeah, it's the Fin Grip & 10 round mag that makes this model CA compliant Everything else is the same.

Hi James and welcome. The elimination of the "Pistol Grip" by the Fin takes away one of the factors that would likewise restrict the model, even with the 10rd magazine. Equipped with a Hard-Chrome-Lined hammer forged barrel with a 1:10 twist and 14x1 LH thread, a Stamped receiver with a RAK-1 Enhanced Trigger Group and a side mount scope rail. Accepts all standard AK magazines, but comes equipped with a California Compliant 10 round magazine and a California Compliant rifle fin-grip. NOTE: CLEANING ROD NOT INCLUDED. Does this have an optic side mount on it?

Yes, you have to buy a rail mount for it but it does have an attachment point for an optic side mount on it. I hope this helps!

The case is about the so called “assault weapons.” Please join or donate to local firearms organizations. We must fight back. If the case is in our favor, who knows how long it will be for. It could be for a day. It could be for a week. It could be for a year. Who knows. But March 19 is a huge day for California and other states, as other states will be paying attention to what California does. If we win we might just be able to buy the regular version of this. Just picked up my new WASR-10 from my FFL this week, and I was off to the range the next day. The rifle shot well and was nearly zeroed out of the box, despite a front sight slightly canted to the left. Many of my Magpul PMAGs won't fit in the well or allow the rifle to rack the first round, but I have plenty of other mags that do work fine so it's not a big issue. The wood furniture it comes with is pretty poor and chipped easily when I tried to get the dust cover back on. So, for now I switched it all out with black polymer/plastic furniture I already had, including Hogue Overmolded handguards, a Magpul grip (fin-wrapped for CA) and an Arsenal stock. I also added an AK cleaning rod, and the rifle looks pretty good now. Fit and finish are about as expected for a WASR-10. Last note: Being in California, I'm allowed to add a muzzle brake, so I carefully cut the spot weld on the muzzle nut with a Dremel - it was much easier than expected. My old slant brake fit perfectly.
