I LOVE this rifle! Accuracy ecxeeds my expectations and that was with factory ammo. I'll start working up my load this week and I can't wait to see the end results!!

This is my first bolt action rifle. I have been shooting AR style rifles at short range 25-50 yards for a while now. I wanted to get into long range shooting. Therefore, I have been doing extensive research over a year for a factory long range bolt action rifle. I narrowed my option between Howa HCR, Ruger Precision Rifle and Savage BA stealth. I am glad that I went with Howa HCR. It is much cheaper than Ruger Precision rifle. I love this gun. This 2 stage trigger breaks around 2 to 2-1/2 pounds from the factory. Previous review mentioned that the stock was wobbly from the factory. Mine came that way too, but there is a hex nut that you have to tighten to get the stock stable (Hex key is provided and it is secured on the left side of the stock). That is by design. Accuracy of this rifle is superb. It has been shooting around 0.5 to 0.6 MOA with a Hornady factory ammo. I am not very good at long distance shooting and this gun makes me look good. It likes the heavier bullets. I have shot about 130 rounds to this date. I don’t know much about actions as this is my first bolt gun but it feels smooth to me. I do recommend getting a Magpul 7.62 AC magazine. Mine AI mag occasionally has failure to feed issue. Get this rifle. You won’t regret it. Howa fan for life now. I see Howa 6.5 Grendel short action in my future.

Purchased this Howa HCR in 6.5 Creedmore with 24" barrel. After a quick barrel cleaning this gun was shooting 1/2 MOA groups at 100 yards with factory ammo. The built in adjustment for LOP and cheek rest is nice. The combination of scope and scope mounts I had mounted to get started did not allow me to get proper eye relief in a natural position. This is not the fault of the rifle but that of the mount and scope. The voice butt pad is relatively hard. This was amplified by the poor position I was forced to use due to the scope position. When the scope mounts to s are replaced with equally capable products I expect this gun to be a real pleasure to shoot and extremely capable. I look forward to shooting this gun often.

First, this is a beautiful rifle. Nice and heavy and a very good entry level rifle for precision shooting. However, one of the first thing you should do with any rifle is read the manual. This rifle doesn't come with its own manual. While it's true that this is a barreled action from the 1500, it shoud come with manuals for the chassis, and the butt stock complete with exploded diagrams. It does not. Small complaint sure, but it's just not the level of detail I expected from a $1000 dollar rifle. The butt stock is a Luth-AR MBA 3 you can go to the Luth website and watch the tips video to see how this butt stock is supposed to function. Also, my butt stock arrived loosely fitted to the chassis. I had decided on the Howa after watching many of the Shot Show videos and everyone I watched described the bolt throw as smooth and tight. I expected zero slop in the action, but that's not what I found. There isn't as much slop as in a Ruger Precision or Predator, but there was quite a bit more than I expected. Not a deal breaker, just not what I expected. I haven't fired it yet, and these are initial thoughts, so keep that in mind. The trigger pulled at 3 lbs right out of the box. For now, I'll give it three stars and change the rating after I have some time behind the trigger.
