Great rifle overall. It has fed reliably and is very accurate. It's a well built rifle.

Being chambered in .223 Wylde this is a better buy than the M&P or Ruger 556. After a couple hundred rounds of playing around and a good barrel clean, I was getting 5 shot groups at 100 yds of about 2”. This was just some random cheap ammo I had around. Hand loads should bring this rifle to shoot a lot tighter. Bought it for the barrel but love this rifle overall. The rear flip sight is a little unique, maybe savage in house, but perfect for this rifle which deserves a nice scope.

This rifle has been my first and only experience in the AR15 world, and it's been an excellent one! I've only had it out a couple times to the range and only put about 50 rounds through it total. Two of my friends have AR's as well, and insist they're capable of handling sustained rapid fire for dumping a magazine with no issue...I know how damn hot high powered rifle rounds can make a gun/barrel and I'd like to keep mine accurate and functional as new for years to come, so I disagree with their gung-ho logic. Savage has made an excellent firearm in the MSR, as they have, in my experience, with all of their guns and they definitely deliver on the slogan in this case- "Savage: the definition of accuracy!"

This was my first AR, and all I really had to do was change the stock for $50! I bought it for $502 from Buds right after they came out so I definitely came out like a bandit... I threw a $230 1.5-6x32mm Weaver scope ontop, and that was the only "expensive" accessory! This is now a perfect AR for approximately $800 with scope & all of the accessories! Yes, you could get a S&W M&P15 for close to the same, but would it be as good as a Savage? I don't think so... I was shooting while standing at an indoor range, and I put 30 rounds to the head & 30 to the chest that were the size of a softball, so that 5R rifling is DEFINITELY worth the money! I also replaced the plastic handguard with a steel one so it looks like a Savage Recon, but with a 9" handguard; not 13" one... I didn't buy it at Buds; it was Guns America in OKC in 1997, but I got a Savage 112BVSS .300 Win Mag for $520!!!!! You can't touch that same rifle for under $1,000 now... God, Savage makes the most accurate rifles! That badboy can put 5 shots ALL touching each other at 100yds (1/4 MOA), too... WoW, Savage makes the most accurate rifles!!!!! This isn't an AR, but if you want an AMAZINGLY ACCURATE rifle for $800, then get the Savage 10P/12FV for $450-$550 and then put a SWFA 10x42 ($299) scope on it. Me, I put a Leatherwood 8-32x50 scope on my 112BVSS for $179, and that's an awesome scope! In my opinion, but a fixed 10x is better than an 8-32x50! I just didnt feel like spending the extra $100 on the SWFA. The Leatherwood 8-32x50 got famous in Vietnam; it's a very well built optic! Its not "military grade," but it's still a very good scope! All I own are Savage rifles! Handguns? Sigs & Springfield's, and then a Mossberg 500 shotgun was my FIRST gun! BUT, YOU'LL NEVER GO WRONG WITH A SAVAGE!!!!! I guarantee it ;-)

I bought the Savage MSR Patrol a few weeks ago and it came very quickly and seemed to be in perfect condition.I fired about 200 rounds of .223 and the buttstock adjustment button broke off of it. The buttstock slipped completely off and the spring came out of the buffer tube. This was the first time I ever shot the rifle and to be honest I was very disappointed in the Blackhawk furniture on it. It seems to heat up quicker than I expected also compared to other AR-15 platforms that I've shot. Overall I am happy because I'm able to fix the butt stock with materials I have here, but I expected a little bit more on the furniture and the rear pop up peep sight leaves a little to be desired also. I still really like the rifle though.

Great rifle for price. Accuracy are right with Savage name. Even with my not so good skills I put easy 5 son less than 1inch group. Put on it very cheap Monarch ammunition in steel cassing no problem whatsoever. Better ammunition fly like a champ. Just need get better with my accuracy over 100 yards. Happy buyer for my sport targets.

For the price I think this is one of the better entry-level AR rifles on the market right now. Accuracy and reliability have been perfectly acceptable for a rifle with a stock trigger and non-free floating handguard. The Blackhawk! stock and handguard are "meh", but easily and cheaply replaceable.

The usual excellent service from Buds, probably my 10th purchase no problems....ever. Now on too this new to the market but well built weapon. The sights leave a lot to be desired which isn't an issue as it will be scoped but I really like the heavier profile barrel and 5R rifling and the mid-length gas system. The MSR has a really light recoil pulse and is very easy to keep on target, shoots very well and the light weight even considering the heavier barrel is great. Savage Got this AR correct !

Fantastic rifle for the money, I couldn't be more happy with the function and feel of this savage. If I had to nitpick anything about it I'd say the rear flip up sight is garbage. However, for what you pay for the rifle you can use the money you saved to get a far better set up.

I researched this weapon extensively on You Tube reviews, AR-15 forums before I started price search. Bud's, by far, had the best price and his shipping to my FFL dealer was amazingly fast. Bud's is the guy! The weapon is as advertised. Built as you expect any gun from Savage to be. Tight upper and lower, excellent trigger, and the BCG is smooth as silk. Blackhawk furniture is better than Magpul, I highly recommend this weapon to anyone who is looking for a way better than entry level AR.

This firearm was cheaper here by $300, compared to another popular retail store in our area. Local gunshops said they couldn't even purchase it for what I paid, so I went ahead with the order, and I'm glad I did. I had never purchased a firearm online, but it arrived in perfect condition to the FFL I chose. Processing was a little slow, as it took a week to ship after my echeck cleared, but in the end the savings was worth the wait. As for the rifle itself, I haven't fired it yet, so assuming it functions as expected, I will be extremely happy with this rifle. The build quality looks and feels higher than most in the sub $1,000 price range; even more so for $500. The furniture on this rifle really set it apart for me. I can't wait to try it out, and will update this review if necessary.

Best AR you can get for the price. This gun is accurate, reliable, and fun even with cheap bullets. Great AR for entry level individuals.

I recieved this rifle and immediately tried several different factory loads after topping it with a 2-7. Most groups were not nearly as tight as I was hoping to see. The 1/8 twist may have been a factor as these were lighter bullets. I picked up a box of hornady 53 grain loaded rounds and went back to the range. I was really impressed as the first 4 rounds clustered at 100 yards. So i know What this rifle is capable of. I ordered some 68gr rounds and am interested what it can do with those. The trigger is not nearly as bad as some ar's i have used. As for look and feel of the rifle. The rifle is light and should make for some easier predator hunting hikes. Its also a good looking rifle. The only thing I disliked about the rifle was the plastic rear sight. I would have liked to see a metal one.

With the 5R rifling and the Blackhawk furniture you can't go wrong at this price. I'm not a big fan of the fixed front sight because I run a scope on mine but for the price I'll deal with it. Savage makes very accurate guns, and doesn't that "trump" everything else when buying a gun?

The firearm works well. Shoots and ejects cheap steel cased ammo. The occasional issue arose when first loading a mag where the bolt or charging handle isn't all the way locked into place and the hammer drops but no round is fired. It only happened on the first round, and hasn't happened in the last 200 rounds or so that I have put through it, only the first few mags. The Patrol shoots very well, the handguard doesn't get hot after dumping 3 mags in a row, and it is more accurate than I am as a noobie shooter (getting rounds through the same holes at 25 yards). Consistently hits a 12x12 inch plate at 200 yards. I don't know what else I would want in a rifle for what I paid. It is light as a feather. 10/10 rifle.

Fast shipping - it came in the next day and arrived, NIB as advertised. Bud's delivered everything they claimed and I am happy to be a returning customer. +1 for Bud's! The Savage MSR itself is a very nice firearm. This is my first AR platform and I could not be more pleased. The fit and finish is great and the weapon worked flawlessly with a function test. The Blackhawk! furniture and rear sight is nothing to write home about, but I think the .223 Wylde chamber, 5R rifling and melonite barrel treatment are certainly worth it. Right now the price for the Savage Patrol 20900 is super incredible - my only regret is that I did not purchase that one at such a great price!

After about 130 rounds, a severe cleaning, several light primer strikes, a full auto burst that could have been very dangerous, and pulling the rifle apart to correct the hammer spring being installed backwards at the factory, the rifle now runs flawlessly and seems to be very accurate with very light recoil. I would recommend a very good inspection before taking it out to shoot but overall is a very nice rifle for the price.

Comfortable rifle, nice M-LOK handguard, nice (different) front sight. Rear sight fell apart on me the 5th time I opened it which apparently isn't uncommon with the Blackhawk rear flip up sight. Savage sent a new one no questions asked. Problem solved for now I guess. The sights cowitness perfectly with most any red dot I have tried as long as it has a base underneath it. This model number does have a forward assist (which I was not expecting). I was planning on adding one anyways so one less thing for me to add later.
