Another great product from Ruger! Performed flawlessly with any ammo I tried. Just like my my Ruger Mini 14, best grouping rounds were the UMC 50gr hp. No 55gr loads grouped near as well!

Great out of the box AR. This model 8511 is MD legal version of the model 8500 Ruger AR 556. Only difference is a heavy barrel and a 10 round clip instead of the standard 30 round magazine. As far as I could tell with MD laws, which are very unclear, absurd and mind numbing, it is perfectly legal to buy a 10+ round capacity magazine out of state and bring it in to MD for personal use. Do this and you’ll have a regular Ruger AR556, the only difference then being the heavy barrel.

This was my first AR so take this review with a grain of salt. I picked this up back in March of 2018 and have slowly put about 500 rounds through it. No hiccups or malfunctions so far. It's a pretty basic, entry level AR, but that's not a bad thing. I removed 1 star for a couple reasons. One, the pins that hold the upper and lower together were so tight that in order to take the thing apart I had to bash them out with a punch and hammer swinging with more force than I was comfortable with. I ended up sending it back to Ruger who replaced the upper. Ruger customer service was great, got the gun back within a week or so and it now comes apart with finger pressure. Two, the stock is pure trash. It rattles on the tube and really calls attention to it being a cheap, entry level AR. I replaced it with a Mission First Tactical stock and it's been excellent. I would recommend this rifle for customer service alone, but the price to performance is good too.

THE RUGER AR556 HAS PERFORMED AS EXPECTED, IT IS A VERY ACCURATE AND EASY TO USE. THE SIGHTS WERE DEAD ON FROM FACTORY AT 100 YARDS. THE WEAPON IS VERY EASY TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FIREARM TO ANYONE IN THE AR MARKET. ONE LAST NOTE IT IS MARYLAND COMPLIANT, WHICH IS REALLY HELPFUL HERE. RUGER PRODUCES THE FINEST FIREARMS, I OWN QUITE A FEW AND HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED.

I am a big Ruger fan. I waited a long time to pick up one of these not because the reviews were bad but because I live in a state that makes put restrictions on what semi auto rifles features were acceptable. Once Ruger stepped up, I was there. I was not disappointed, great balance, 4-5 lb trigger pull, shoots 1-2 inch groups right out of the box at 100 yards and eats any ammo you feed it. It is easy to breakdown and clean and has a bolt assist but 700 rounds and never used it yet, fast ship from buds and great pricing as always -great buy!

Nice price point! Be advised that two (2) of these these DID NOT come with the 10 round cartridge as was stated in the product description; rather, they came with one each 5 round cartridge which was somewhat disappointing. An added bonus was a front site adjusting tool was included. I had no idea there was such a tool. Up until now I simply used a nail for such. I was happy to get an AR for under 600 bucks which allows me to spend some $$$ to customize it a bit with the savings. NOTE: the hand grip has no heat shield so keep that in mind when ordering extra parts.

A:Claudio, unfortunately this is not California compliant due to the Pistol grip, collapsible stock, threaded barrel and flash hider. Sorry but hope this helps. Here is California's restrictions... https://www.budsgunshop.com/feeds/state_reg/california_restrictions.pdfSee 2 more answers | -

A:Some states for an ar15 to have features like pistol grip, collapsible stock, threaded barrel and so on it has to have a heavy barrel/thick barrel. So if it has a heavy barrel then it can have those features. So this is like any other ar15 just has a heavy barrel Wich alot of people prefer. You have pencil barrel/light barrel, government/medium thickness and heavy. Hope this helps.See 2 more answers | -

A:Yes, this is Maryland compliant/legal. If a AR-15 has a heavy Barrel in Maryland then it\'s good to go. Trust me I get what your saying I grew up in Maryland and glad I moved to PA. But good to go on this one. Hope this helps.See 2 more answers | -

A:With a fixed mag solution, AR-15 (plus M4 and AR-10) owners may keep their features, such as pistol grips, forward grips, adjustable buttstock, flash suppressor, thumbhole stocks, famously known as “evil features-copied from Google. So yes, sounds like a fixed magazine let's you keep your features. Unfortunately this magazine isn't fixed and buds will not modify a firearm in any way other than removing the magazine to make it state compliant. Hope this helps.See 4 more answers | -
