Had it for about a year now and it's a great black powder revolver for beginners. The take down pin was pretty stuck but I got it eventually lol. great hobby gun tho!

Ordering from Buds was easy and straightforward. Shipped out quickly and was revolver arrived in perfect condition. This 1851 Colt Navy in 44 caliber made by Pietta and imported by Traditions is an excellent revolver! The fit and finish is excellent, the action is very smooth without any burrs. After removing all the oil from shipping with a degreaser, lubricating then with Ballistol and 1000 Plus Bore Butter I shot it using.454 round balls and kept charges between 25 and 35 grains by volume of 3FG black powder. I included a picture of the results. This was shot at 10 yards (30 feet) away. Excellent results!! I’m very happy!!

Looking for a fun time plinking? This Navy revolver will provide it. I have shot it several times and had no issues. I recommend this if you are in the market for a black powder pistol.

I found this revolver to be of very high quality. The fit and finish are as good as guns costing much more. Ease of loading, and accuracy, are both excellent.
Five stars for this one!

An unexpected pleasure ordering from Bud’s. My order arrived at my door three days later, in a well packed box. I highly recommend Bud’s.

Five stars for the value. Functions perfectly. This is my first black powder gun so I cannot compare this to the original or to other brands. I do however shoot a lot of pistol and this one works well and has much smoother action than I was anticipating. Shoots high and right using a light powder load; I understand that’s typical. About 10 inches high at 25y so not too bad. Gun looks beautiful with the case hardening finish and brass grip and trigger guard. Comes with a lot of oil from factory that needs to be wiped off before using. Barrel wedge comes out and goes in with only finger pressure, and locks tightly without the need for a mallet. Nipple holes I guess are a little too large because the No10 caps get mangled really bad, so I am removing them as I fire them to avoid lockups

This is the biggest piece of garbage I've ever bought. The overall fit and finish is terrible (most notably the visible pitting in the brass from the casting), but the worst part is how the whole revolver is SLAPPED together. Some screws were put in so loose they're backing themselves out. Some were so tight, you end up stripping them when you try to disassemble the gun to clean it (because it ships covered in oil and blackpowder residue that they left on it when they tested it). And the wedge is forced in so tight that it's impossible to remove without marring the finish. This is my first Pietta made firearm, and it will also be my last.

This is my second .44 cal cap and ball revolver, my first of the Traditions (Pietta) brand. The revolver arrived quickly and has excellent fit and finish, tight lock up and smooth action. At the range it functioned flawlessly. I shot with 25 and 35 grains of Goex black powder. At 10 yards distance, with 25 grains it hit right on the bulls eye and in the 9 ring. At 35 grains the revolver shot high by about 4 - 5". The wind-age was right on center out of the box and is easy to take apart for cleaning. The wooden grips are nicely finished and well fit to the frame. The bluing is perfect and has a high luster. I would purchase another firearm from Bud's and of the Traditions (Pietta) brand.

I ORDERED THIS CAP AND BALL REVOLVER AND BUDS SHIPPED IT OUT RIGHT AWAY AND IT ARRIVED AT MY HOUSE JUST A FEW DAYS LATER. IT'S A BEAUTIFUL GUN WITH CASE HARDENED FRAME WALNUT GRIPS .PIETTA SEEMS TO HAVE CHANGED THEIR GRIP STYLE TO BE TRUER TO THE COLT NAVY GRIP INSTEAD OF THE PIETTA TAIL. IT'S NICE. I'VE SHOT ABOUT THIRTY OR FORTY ROUNDS WITH ROUND BALLS AND CONICALS 30 TO 33.5 GRAINS OF BLACK POWDER AND PYRODEX SELECT FFG. IT SHOT GOOD AND RIGHT WHERE YOU PUT IT. THE TRIGGER SPRING BROKE RIGHT AFTER THIS SHOOTING SESSION. I HAVE ANOTHER PIETTA WHERE THE TRIGGER SPRING BROKE RIGHT AWAY. WITH PIETTAS ITS GOOD TO HAVE SPARE TRIGGER AND BOLT SPRINGS. PUT IN THE NEW TRIGGER AND BOLT SPRING AND WE ARE BACK UP AND RUNNING , HOPEFULLY FOR GOOD. THE OTHER PIETTA I HAD TO PUT A SPRING IN IS STILL WORKING AFTER A COUPLE YEARS. ANYWAY, I'M ENJOYING THIS PIETTA NAVY 44 CAL. REVOLVER IT'S FUN. AND IT SHIPS RIGHT TO YOUR HOUSE. ENJOY!

I just received my 1851 and my first impression is very positive! I've owned many guns over the last 50 years and I cannot recall any of them having a better fit and finish. My biggest concern before getting the gun was removing the wedge. There are numerous posts with stories about people having major problems removing the wedge. I had no problem. Per the instructions I took a plastic handled screw driver and gave the wedge a nice, sharp smack and off it came! No problem. If this gun works 1/2 as well as it looks, I'll be one grinnin' fool :)

After having received the gun I took it out of the box and noticed that it had alot of sharp edges around the grip and the fit was not all that great. I took a little time dehorning and sanding down various areas ( i also griinded down the wide flair at the base of the grip) and am now very satisfied. The case colored hardening is beautiful. Buds was a pleasure to do business with as well.
