Walther P99 Overview

The Walther P99 pistol was developed to meet the demand of semi-automatic pistol among different law enforcement agencies around the world and for the civilian shooting market. The development of the new generation pistol began in 1994 and had its public debut was in 1997 with mass production in the same year. This handgun is a short recoil-operated, locked breech, semi-automatic handgun, that utilizes a modified Browning cam-lock design from the Hi-power series of sidearm.



The Walther P99 is built with a glassfiber-reinforced polymer frame and steel slide assembly. One feature of the pistol is that it can be broken down without a help of a tool. The P99 utilizes an internal striker rather than an external hammer.



The grip of the pistol is impressive due to its ability to be “custom fit” to the shooter, with three interchangeable backstraps. The dimension of trigger guard is perfect to fit any shooter’s hand size, even with tactical glove or a light winter glove. All main pistol functions were implemented as ambidextrous for a truly universal application. Plenty of accessories are also available for this pistol, such as laser pointers, tactical lights, magazine flashlight adapters, holsters, magazines, magazine loaders, grip extenders and a suppressor kit with a 117 mm (4.6 in) barrel and protective cap for the muzzle threads. The standard P99 carries 16 rounds of .9mm ammunition inside the magazine, while the .40 model shoots holds 12-rounds. The overall length of P99 pistol is about 7.9 inches, with barrel length of 4.02 inches and weighs about 1.34lb when it is unloaded. This pistol is certainly a performer and not a paperweight, and will provide firepower, accuracy, and quality performance to every shooter.
