Terrible gun. It arrived and I took it to the range and it fails to eject spent shells. Attempted to contact Buds, whom I realize is likely overwhelmed these days, but have yet to hear back after three days. Not a happy customer. Called Ruger and they recommended trying different ammo which I will do. Poor quality right out of the box.

Very nice firearm. Shots great with low recoil. Was missing the 2 small bolts to the hand guard. Other then that everything else was great.

Hard to give this pistol a good rating since it was nonfunctional upon receiving it. Unfortunately I didn't bother making sure everything functioned before accepting the transfer, so now I'm stuck working with Ruger to try to get them to fix it. Basically, the upper and lower receiver do not fit together quite right, and this apparently causes something to be out of alignment between the upper receiver and buffer tube. The bold carrier lodges in the buffer tube when the charging handle is pulled to the rear, and you have to bang the pistol brace on the floor to get the bolt carrier to go forward. I've emailed Ruger, but they're understaffed at the moment so I have no idea when this thing will ever be shootable.

I bought this because it was on sale, and I figured with the Ruger name on it, it would at least function, but now I regret it and wish I would've spent more for something of higher quality. Very disappointed in Ruger.

The gun is what it is supposed to be, however it was missing the magazine. I contacted Buds and no response, I contacted Ruger, no response. Customer service has gone down the tubes for both companies. I will be hesitant to buy from Bud or Ruger again.

I waited to review this weapon until after I had time to range test it. Let me start by saying that it took seven days to get the weapon. The FFL I used called me the same day UPS delivered the weapon and I picked it up. That was the following Monday. I ordered on a Monday. Now to the rifle. The fit and finish were fair not good and not poor. I had to file off a section of very rough metal on the lower that was missed in quality control. It was an overhang on the top side of the lower and you could actually cut your finger on it when the AR was assembled. This left a small bare aluminum spot but since I expect it to get knocked around, I did not worry to much about it. At the range, the hand guard gets very hot. You will need to use a glove for prolonged shooting or grip it at the mag well. The hand guard is average and nothing special. The SBA brace was very nice. The grip was sort of clunky and rather large. There is no storage inside. I will probably replace it with a Magpul. Accuracy was fine and the weapon ran 200 rounds without an issue. This included slow fire and rapid fire. It is LOUD and I mean much louder than a normal AR. Did I say it was LOUD? I brought it home and broke it down for cleaning and inspection. There was not any abnormal wear all though the bolt carrier sustained most of the observed wear. It is not a \"normal: bolt carrier and the pin that is required to be removed for disassembly is very hard and weird to put back in. You have to reach inside it and pinch the pin to get it to fully insert into the hole. A Ruger trait but not a game-ender however it does not lend itself to a good field cleaning. I did notice the buffer tube locking nut was very loose and the brace was wobbling. Thank goodness I did not lose the spring under it. I did put some lock tight on it and tightened it down. This came loose during the session as I checked it over before going and it was tight. I will check it after the next range trip. It is not staked in any way. You should use lock tight to lock it down before shooting it. Now after saying all this, I would be pissed it I purchased it at the high end of the pricing instead of the low end like I did. With a name like Ruger, you would expect more quality control. I have several Ruger pistols and their fit and finish are excellent. From what I have seen of their AR line (this being my only sample), they are comparable to the DPMS line but at a higher price. Would I buy this again?....maybe.....maybe not. COME ON RUGER you can and should do much better.

I was in the market for an AR pistol and found the Ruger AR556 to be a competitive model for the price. As always, Bud\'s had the best price, very fast shipping, and great communications throughout the purchase process. Upon arrival I inspected the exterior of the firearm. Fit and finish was very good. Since my FFL is a local range I decided to shoot a few rounds. No problems there. Only shooting about 50 rounds I had no failure to feed or extract problems and I dialed in her in at 25 yards pretty quick.

The problem wasn\'t until I got home and broke her down to clean and lubricate. The bolt carrier group (BCG) had what I can only call sever gouges and tooling marks all along the left side and other areas. Everything else looked good. I contacted Ruger customer support and sent them pictures of the BCG. After reviewing the pictures Ruger sent me a UPS shipping label to return the entire AR pistol to them for inspection. I have not yet heard back from Ruger as to the problem but did receive an email indicating they received the pistol and were going to inspect it. They would also email letting me know what the problem was/is and what they were going to do about it.

So, great looking and shooting AR pistol but a little problem with the quality of the BCG. I\'m hopeful Ruger will make it right. I never have any concerns ordering through Bud\'s and I would purchase this product again knowing Ruger stands behind their products.

Let me say that I love this firearm...after I sent it back to Ruger. When I first received it, it wouldn\'t go completely into battery, after a few tries It wouldn\'t allow me to use the charging handle at all. Ruger took it back and fixed the problem within a week (faulty charging handle). Since then it has functioned amazingly with no further hiccups. I\'ve put about 200 rounds through it using Pmags, Lancer mags, Hexmag, and GI style magazines with varying ammo and it has performed great! It was very accurate and soft shooting. I have it set up with Mbus flip up sights, a ROMEO5 red dot from Sig, and a Streamlight TL1 HL long gun light for a home defense option if needed, though it will likely just be a fun plinker for range trips.

Extremely happy with my purchase overall and despite the initial issue, would definitely recommend the AR556 pistol.

I like everything about this gun except for the barrel length. A 12.5\" barrel would be a whole lot more useful and a little easier on the ears when shooting. Other than that the build quality is great!

Just finished sighting in and testing my new Ruger AR 556 pistol. Pistol is accurate and functioned perfectly through 100 rounds. My only problem was with cleaning the gun to remove the thick oil coating before firing it the first time. After disassembly and cleaning, I had a devil of a time getting the cotter pin #57 in the bolt carrier assembly back into the gun. The tips of the pin spread apart preventing reassembly. Finally I managed to rebend the two prongs of the cotter pin so they were touching and was able to force the pin into place. A simple fix but an unnecessary irritant.

Gun has not been fired but it is %u201Ctoo tight %u201C ( actually a compliment for some). I understand that a perfect fit between the upper and lower is not necesssary for a good rifle but for those that demand it..they would be pleased. I understand that the %u201C next one%u201D may not be like that but this one is. Buds shipped timely under the current circumstances. Thanks again!

Michael, upper is 16.5 inches with the upper removed, lower is 12.5 inches fully collapsed and lower height is 7.5 inches.

If I'm interpreting this right I think you are asking if a suppressor would render the barrel length too long and to that I can say there is no upper limit on pistol barrel length, only a lower limit of 16" to be considered a rifle which this already doesn't qualify for due to the lack of a stock. Even if there was a maximum barrel length for pistols I doubt a suppressor would change the relevant barrel length unless you permanently attached it with pin/weld which would be an odd choice.

Larry, CO has a 15d magazine capacity limit. I have heard from other members that if magazine capacity is the ONLY state restriction that some Buds personnel have offered to remove/replace magazines. I would contact Buds Customer Service to see whether or not they will at 1-859-368-0371 9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon - Sat and 9am to 7pm Sunday.

Robert, Yes.The top rail is a standard pic rail. Magpul mbus sights will drop right on. Ruger has a pretty good set of back up sights that are very similar. Most back up sight sets will drop right on this rail.
