Hi Scott and welcome. This is due to the Gas Block being designed into the Front Sight assembly. Can this AR be fired with the front grip removed? Does the front grip unscrew?

Hi Scott and welcome. Yes Sir. The forward grip has zero bearing on the rifle's ability to fire. It is removed by loosening 2 screws and rotating the bolt clamps as pictured here : https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/33036/aim+sports+pjmvg+mlok+vertical+foregrip+black+polymer

Yes, it is just a hollow plastic grip mounted with 2 screws. Should require just a long 1/8" hex bit or allen wrench. I'd actually be surprised if it comes installed from the factory and not just in the box separately.
