I remember seeing my first Browning High Power when I was11 I am now 72 I believe it was $ 68.00 back then that was a lot of money lol. I purchased a SA35. &. Last month I purchased the Girsan Mcp 35 I honestly can’t stop looking at this gun can’t stop picking it up fit & finish is really nice , honestly it feels and looks better than my my SA 35. Can’t wait to get to the range, I ordered on Thursday & picked up Tuesday when my FFL dealer opened up , I believe this is my 5 th handgun purchase from Buds always fast service & great prices. Thanks Buds

I received the gun and shot it the same day - about 100 rounds. It shoots very smooth, not snappy at all. It is comfortable in my (smallish) hands. The grips are not universaly liked and I know people that change them right away. I happen to like them just the way they are - looks and feel. Grips are on the fat side but are comfortable to hold. The trigger has a scratchy initial feel (CA model) but is crisp at the wall. Easy to rack. The low piont is the sights. I guess thats how guns use to be a century ago. My Girsan MCP35 came overly lubed but that didn't bother me. Comes with one mag but replacement mags are cheap. The overall proportions and looks are classic and appealing. Even in the era of modern guns it is a compelling choice.

Fortunately for CA gun enthusiasts, not long after the Girsan P35 was introduced, California's microstamping requirement was eliminated opening the door for new pistols to make it onto the Roster. About 30 years ago I owned an Argentine FM version of the Hi Power that I let go of for some reason, and this was my chance to replace it, possibly with a better iteration of the Hi Power. At first sight the CA model P35 is exceedingly well executed. The finish is a hard coat that appears durable, but only time will tell. Parts fitment is perfect for a handgun meant for combat. Slide to frame fit has just a bit of movement and the slide moves without resistance. The high polish barrel lugs slot into the slide lugs nice and tight. The pistol functions quite smoothly, the slide locks back on empty as it should, and unlike many modern designs, the gun can be slow-chambered and the rounds smoothly glide up the long feed ramp into the chamber - reminds me of the smooth chambering characteristics of 1911 pattern 38 Super handguns. The P35 fits perfectly in the hand, better than I remember with the FM, and better than a 1911 dare I say it. Bore axis is low, lower than many more modern designs which contributes to low recoil. Grip angle is excellent for rapid point-shooting, and bulk of the pistol's weight sits in the hand for rapid pointing and target acquisition. Due to the slide nose being enclosed, it's possible to chamber the pistol using a thumb and forefinger press, or by pushing the nose of the slide against a shelf or ledge. The gun can of course be press-checked using the thumb and forefinger, but with the CA model that isn't needed due to a really well done chamber loaded indicator that is unobtrusive and flush when unloaded, and projects up enough to see, or feel in the dark but doesn't intrude into the sight picture. I personally favor CLIs because they allow one to see instantly if the gun is loaded - just like a revolver. The design of the Girsan CLI is zero resistance and does not impeded chambering in any way. I also like the way the firing pin block is integrated into the sear lever. It's a simple, easy to inspect ledge that sits in a recess on the firing pin and drops downward as the sear is released. One doesn't need to disassemble the pistol in any way to see all of the critical engagement surfaces - something not even found on Glocks! Now we come to the magazine safety. It works via a tiny steel pad that protrudes into the magazine well being depressed by the magazine body. this rotates the trigger lever rearward, underneath the sear release lever so when the trigger is pulled, it pushes the front of the lever up. As the slide cycles, the sear lever is disengaged, and upon slide closure the trigger lever is trapped in front of the sear lever until the trigger is released so it can reset, a really ingenious design! many find the somewhat gritty sensation of the tiny magazine safety moving up the magazine body distracting, but it smooths out very quickly and has no direct impact on trigger pull weight. Stock trigger pull is around 5.5 pounds which is ideal for a pistol meant for combat use. Out of the box the trigger pull feels heavier than it is, but begins to smooth out quickly and with use will become superb. Some 30 years after the polymer pistol revolution, evaluating this virtually clone of the Hi Power shows that it was ahead of its time and in no way has been surpassed by newer designs. In non-CA spec it can hold 16 rounds, it's compact, well-balanced, with low bore axis and excellent, fixed sights that are large and crisp but not obtrusive. Also, the CA model comes with the slide cut for red dot sights for those so inclined and the single-screw removal of the insert from the top is much better than those designs that require removing the screws from the inside. From a post-modern viewpoint, the only negative to the Browning design is being single-action in a world festooned with double-action mechanisms, but the same simplicity of function that makes the 1911 a favorite over a 100 years after introduction, even after it is no longer a front-line duty issue pistol, also applies to the Girsan P35 interpretation of the Hi Power. Using a proper, two-handed counter-pressure hold I am able to group inside 3 inches at 15 yards standing fire. Over 100 rounds fired there were no failures to feed or eject, and the low bore axis reduces muzzle snap. I am glad to see this classic design coming back around and recommend it!
