Hi Jeff, layaway is easy to use. Simply put the item in your cart and proceed to checkout. At the payment page, choose layaway as payment option. At that time, you will be prompted to put 20% down, and you're all done. There are no fees during the first 30 days. A $10 fee will be added to layaway orders that remain open after this initial period. After 60 days, an additional $15 fee will be applied to your balance. During the Layaway period, you can either make multiple payments, or just make one final payment at the end, at which time we will ship your firearm. Wanting to buy additional grips. Some say for round butt others for square. Which is the 686 plus deluxe?

This is the round butt frame, also any other post-1996 manufacture 686 should be round butt as well.

It's a round butt frame but you can get square butt grip conversions for it. " VZ Grips" makes several really nice grips in both round and square made from G10 composite that look beautiful on this gun.. I have the black/black squares on my 686 and they work great. Nice guns.

all new S&W revolvers are round but Smith has grips for the round butts that feel like the square butt

Is the 686 Plus Deluxe drilled and tapped for installation of an optic rail or mount?

Is it all stainless steel or is the frame stainless and the cylinder a different material? How about the barrel?

The description says stainless steel frame and barrel. The cylinder is also stainless steel, which the description doesn’t state. It was my pleasure to assist you.

Bernie, This well made L-Frame S&W revolver is all Stainless Steel with a few MIM parts such as hammer and trigger. You will feel the quality when you handle this beast.

It’s a heavy gun. It is al stainless steel and weighs over 2 pounds.

Bernie, all mentioned parts are Stainless Steel Sir. WEIGHT IN OUNCES is 36.8oz's.

Does this model have a case hardened hammer and trigger or are they MIM parts?

Kelly, My 686-6 has MIM trigger and hammer. The gun is warranted for life. Can swap out the trigger to old style case hardened trigger, but not the hammer. S&W MIM parts show no more of a failure rate than case hardened non-MIM parts.

Kelly, same deal, I am 99% sure MIM Parts are used Sir. S&W still have MIM parts sentt to their heat treat facility for hardening and in the case of hammers and triggers, case hardening. I would get a definitive answer from Smith and Wesson Customer Service at 1-800-331-0852 Mon-Fri 8:00AM-6:00PM Eastern Time.

I love this revolver. It works beautifully, and it can hold seven rounds. It is very comfortable in the hand. Yeah, it has the " lock," and this is the only negative aspect of this beautiful revolver. It is my new everyday carry. Buds naturally provided stellar service to get this to me in a very timely manner, and the price was very reasonable.

This is such a beautiful gun. Went to the range and shot 84 rounds of .38 and .38 +P ammo, and 56 rounds of 357, both personnel protection and training. Gun handles get and was very accurate.

Although I have not fired this gun yet. The reason why I purchased this gun was I fired my friends S&W 686 3" barrel. Because it only had a 3" barrel I thought it wouldn't be that accurate. I was wrong. The gun was right on, well balanced and felt solid when firing. Bud's had a decent price so, I bought one. Fast and reliable shipping as usual from Bud's. So far I am very satisfied. Beautiful, smooth shooter! It does sting a little when firing using the wood grips, but still very usable for self defense.

One of the finest revolvers ever made, hands down. This is an absolute classic I think any gun collection needs to have. Fan girling aside, Its a full frame 357 so even the most powerful hard cast loads are pretty manageable. The 3in version is easy to carry at the hip for a hunting/backwoods sidearm. The wooden grips are just beautiful, not very comfortable to shoot with, but when i go to shoot it I slip on a Houge monogrip and that takes care of that. Had a pretty standard S&W heavy double action pull with a very light and crisp single action. Gun is very very accurate and reliable as the day is long. I love the 7 shot, 1 more shot doesn’t seem like much but if its thats extra shell that saves your hide, then thats all that matters. Bottom line after all that rambling… This is the quintessential 357, you should stop thinking about it and just buy it, you will not be dissapointed.

I have had the 686 3” for a few years now and I love it. But, since the Colt Python 3” has has come out and is available I thought I would do some research with the thought of trading the S/W for the Colt. Although the Colt may have an action that is smooth as glass while the action on the S/W is excellent I found 3 or 4 reasons to keep the 686. I found the wood grips on the 686 fit my hand better. Reportedly some of the rear sights on the Colt are loose witch can be replaced by Wilson Combat sights. The S/W factory sights are excellent. Also I use SpeedBiz speed loader on the 686 which are not availed for Colt. And I like the look or the round but on the grip on the 686 on a 3” revolver. So why go though the hassle of changing?
