I have been to several 22 bird shot shoots and the savage holds a very tight group and has won me many rounds.

The Quality is outstanding just the way the rifle feels so solid, really easy to setup. Other than the bolt was kind of a pain to put in until reading the owners manual and noticing there was a certain way. Other than that an outstanding rifle to shoot.

This smooth bore 22 lr is absolutely awesome. It shoots the CCI shot shells and at 10 yards the chipmunks and starlings are toast. I have stretched it to 15 yrds but it is not as effective. The accu trigger is great also. It must have a tight chamber because the all metal crimped Federal shells will shoot, but they will not eject. The only objection i have is the stock is very smooth and can slip in your hands easily. It was dead on from the factory with open sights. If you can find one of these you better grab it !

This Savage Mark 1 is a great garden gun. Perfect for Ratshot. It patterns much better than a rifle or pistol with a rifled barrel. It's essentially my 22 shotgun. Perfect for squirrels or other pests. The one thing that would make this better would be a magazine like the Mark 2 guns offer. Bolt Action would be necessary since Ratshot wont run a semi-auto but without a magazine, follow up shots are hard. I found a shell holder that holds 22 and fits over the butt-stock. Still more time than just cycling a bolt however. Choices are slim in this category however. You have this Mark 1 from Savage or a Henry Garden gun at twice the price.

Great little garden for squirrels and what have you. It is smooth bore so use .22 shot shells.
