My cylinder is a little tough to open or close

Norval, this is normal on this model Taurus. Mine took a few openings/closings to wear in. I helped it along by cleaning and using some light dry lube at the cylinder/frame contact points. She is butter smooth now. Also check cylinder for "free spin" to make sure it is not binding. Most firearms will have a wear in period of some sort. If you don't notice improvement after this, then contact Taurus for resolution at Taurus Customer Care (800) 327-3776 Monday - Friday 8:00AM to 10:00PM (EST)

Norval - most likely just needs a little break-in time, use, and cleaning/lubing. BTW Taurus DOES NOT ave a lifetime warranty any longer on weapons not in production before January 1, 2018. Their new warranty policy: "The Taurus Unlimited Lifetime Repair Policy extends to all Taurus USA firearm models in production prior to January 1, 2017. This policy does not cover grips, sights, accessories, cosmetic defects after one year, or damage caused by customer abuse at any time. Taurus USA will not be responsible for these items." That means of course, they change one single little thing and designate a different model number for any/all their firearms, and instantly, no more lifetime warranty for those 'new model' firearms.

Norval, Inspect all mechanical parts of crane and release lever. Clean and lube lightly all mechanics of cylinder. Make sure cylinder release button is functioning properly. Check for wobble when you spin open cylinder. May have a QC issue. Good thing is Taurus has the lifetime warranty. Not functioning properly send her back.

How to notice excessive cylinder play.

Open the action and spin the ejector rod gently. It should not wobble at all. If it does, someone has made a habit of "slapping" the cylinder shut. You know, just like they do in every movie and television show. I sometimes get arguments on this, but the practice kills good guns. It leads to the heartache of bent cranes, warped ejector rods, worn-out cylinder stops, and broken homes. I've seen direct evidence. If the rod wobbles, walk away: it costs too much to fix. Close the cylinder. Pull the trigger to the rear, but keep it pulled once the hammer’s fallen. This puts the gun in full lockup. The cylinder should not have excessive movement from front to rear. A slight bit of play is normal, but more than the thickness of a driving license means that the gun is likely shot out. These things are strong, but not invulnerable. An unfortunate mix of alcohol and handloading can lead to a life of regret and a gun nobody wants to buy. While keeping the trigger pulled, wiggle the cylinder side-to-side. Again, there will be some play, but if it feels like it's going to trip over to the adjacent chamber, the gun is either out of timing or the cylinder stop (or attendant spring) is abnormally worn.

I just want a few more opinions, would you guys choose this Taurus or the EAA 770130 Windicator 357? I’m going back and forth on the two. I appreciate you guys.

Anthony - You ask for opinions, but didn't specify what your intended use is for the revolver. If you are going to carry daily, then the Taurus is the obvious choice, due to size and weight. If you want something to just shoot occasionally at the range, then the EAA is more what you're looking for. If you're looking for something to do both, then I would say the Taurus is the way to go, and then shoot 38s in it at the range. You could carry it with 357s ... but shoot a few first so the recoil doesn't totally surprise you the first time you shoot it. Shooting .357 in a revolver as light and small as the Taurus is going to be torture after a few rounds. The EAA could help handle the extra recoil. Bottom line is .. what you intend to use the firearm for.

Anthony, I actually have both. The Taurus is what I use for carry as the EAA Windicator is larger than one would think. It will give you an extra round over the Taurus but there will be a trade-off in carry comfort for sure. The Windicator is hefty but built like a tank.

I have the 605 and have shot the EAA. The EAA is heavier and seems to be built stronger. The 605 is almost impossible to hold onto when shooting .357 and after about ten rounds you're going to notice it.

How much “play” in the cylinder is acceptable? Pitched last mounts, put it In full lock up I am able to move the cylinder Clockwise and counter clockwise well as up and down. The clock/counter clockwise play is enough to misalign the chamber with the barrel approximately 1/8”. The chamber and barrel are perfectly alligned otherwise. Haven’t shot it yet, and this play doesn’t inspire confidence

I bought the Taurus 605 as a concealed carry guy. It fits nicely in my leg holster and fits pretty discreetly under pants. The gun’s finish is pretty sexy too. It’s also pretty fun to shoot .38. The 357 was pretty rough. I fired off 5 rounds and my hand was stinging. The 38 was smooth.

Nice little snub nose. 38 and 38+p great to shoot. However, the 357 loads are a bit harsh and will hurt the hand after several rounds. Definitely recommend for a backup gun.
