I want to know how accurate it is and also does it have quality workings of the trigger mechanism. Has it ever jammed? How confident is everyone to own it and carry it for protection.

TD, I have the shorter barreled version (https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/35177/rock+island+armory+51417+gi+standard+manual+safety+ca+compliant+single+45+acp+425+8%2b1+wood+gr) and have no reliability issues. It is well made and has a solid slide to frame fit. I also own several RIA 10mm's including the Big Rock and the same is true across the board. Cheers and stay safe!

Td, rock island armory makes quality 1911s. I own one of these in 9mm and after roughly 2500 rounds I haven't had any type of malfunction. As for accuracy it's very accurate, if I do my part I can hit a 4 inch gong at 25 yards Everytime. Im confident enough to keep it as one of my home defense pistols, it's a little heavy or I'd have absolutely no issue carrying it. As long as you don't mind the weight this would be a great carry pistol. Hope this helps.

Is the safety ambidextrous?

Willie, no this does not have a ambidextrous safety. The safety is only on the left side for right handed shooters. What kind of magazines will fit & work in this firearm?

Gary, for single action you just rack the slide and pull the trigger. Single action means the trigger only performs one action, it drops the hammer. Then you have double action Wich performs two actions, it pulls the hammer back and drops the hammer. When fired the slide will pull the hammer back. Hope this helps.

Gary, no Sir. Just that when you load the magazine and insert it, you just have to manually rack the slide to chamber the first round. You then just need to pull the trigger to empty the magazine as the pistol will then fire with each pull of the trigger until the magazine is empty. Cheers and stay safe!

Ted, this model is Grand Fathered from previous certification until that certification expires. All new candidate handguns must have a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect safety. They are well-made, functional 1911's. Upgrading sights is one of the first things I'd look into but that's not uncommon with gi-style 1911s. Overall a good value for adding a 1911 to your collection.

Tony, rock island armory makes great 1911s. I own two one in 9mm and one in 45 acp and both have been nothing but great. They're accurate, extremely reliable, and all around great pistols. They're probably the best budget 1911 you can find. I'd definitely recommend them to people. Hope this helps.

Rock Island armory has done a great job of producing a fine 1911 replica. Butte gun shop shipped it very quickly and I ordered it and a week later. It was at the FFL dealer that I use here in California for any shipments coming from out of state. This gun is just great shoots well and shoots where I aim that’s probably the most important part of it is. That’s very accurate. I’m so happy with this pistol and I enjoy shooting a firearm that is very accurate so happy with this gun. If you’re considering buying one of these, don’t look at the price the price was very reasonable almost to the point where you think if it’s this cheap, it can’t be very good. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s a great gun you would be happy with your purchase. At least that’s my opinion. Thanks for reading.
