Great product! I was looking for a 1911 in .40, and this is about the only one out there currently being made. I've never owned a Rock Island product before so had some reservations but I was VERY pleasantly surprised by this pistol. Everything is tight on it, it's well made, and fit and finish exceeded my expectations. It's not a $1500 finish but again, you're not paying that for it (it's still nice, check out Youtube videos for close ups). I've put about 150 rounds through it (both FMJ and JHP) and it hasn't had a single problem cycling. The only issue I had (and it's been noted on a few Youtube videos) is that the factory magazine failed to lock open about 40% of the time. I bought a couple of Wilson Combat magazines and the problem is solved...smooth and flawless operation. Bottom line: If you're looking for a 1911 in .40, or just looking for a way to enjoy some of that .40 ammo you've got and you're tired of a Glock or XDM, this is a great alternative. It makes the .40 fun again! Highly recommended!

My new RIA 1911 ultra fs ran nicely with 180 &165 gr target ammo and 165 gr federal hydra shock personal defense ammo. The factory magazine would not lock the slide open after the last round. I purchased a mecgar magazine and the last round hold open functioned 90% of the time. Accuracy was very good, and it feels great to shoot! All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase!

I'm on the fence with this pistol I'm still trying to get this gun sighted In it groups well but at 25 yds I'm getting a 5" spead I'm going to change ammo brands and see if I can tighten up groups. I've also had a few ftf issues.

Very nice pistol, I was actually surprised at the quality considering the price. I have had no issues with it so far, it handles the .40 recoil extremely well. I only use brass and nickel cases and 180gr so I can't speak for all ammo but it eats everything I feed it. Thanks Bud's!

I have been wanting this .40 cal. 1911 for awhile now. Lots of good reviews. Finally ordered the Rock Island FS 40. I ordered the gun from Buds on a Tuesday, had the gun at FFL on Friday. I could have gone to the big box store near where I live and had the same exact gun last week. But, they wanted 165.00 more than Buds. This was a no brainer. This is my second purchase from Buds and will be doing more. When I picked up the gun it was flawless. Thanks Buds Guns.

Minor gripe with my .40 handloaded ammo, 180 gr. I like 925/950 FPS which does not reliably cycle the slide. Gun likes full power 180's at 980/ 1,000 FPS. Tried several powders & no luck under 950 . Other than that i'll give it 4 stars.

Much better than expected. Bought this pistol because it came chambered in 40 s&w. Turns out I can send it back to the factory & have a 10mm barrel fitted for it and still under warranty. Definitely recommend this pistol.
