Nice 1911, looks great, shoots great, only draw back is it didn't like under powered ammo. I had some under powered ammo left over from when I used to shoot IDPA. Shot all my other ammo great. Would have been nice to get more info, the user manual doesn't explain much. Like how to change the recoil spring, on the reverse plug, heavy barre modell. An online video would have been great.

Let me start by saying I love this pistol! I have fired about 200 rounds through the pistol so far with one jam which was caused by a gouge on a shell casing making it hang on ejection.
Pro's:
If you like a heavier style pistol then this is for you. It is much heavier than the Glock or Plastibrands out there.
17+1 Double Stack magazine
Trigger pool is so smooth with very little take-up
Iron Sites are dead on
Grip is wider but not boxy like the Glock
Dovetail at bottom of grip is a nice touch and adds to the feel
Heavier weight allows for a nice balance and quicker return for target acquisition
Well built with very low tolerances making it an extremely tight unit
Con's:
Really messy when received. You will definitely need to clean this up prior to firing
The finish is less than desirable as it will keep fingerprints on slide if not properly cleaned/maintained
It took me a while to figure out how to disassemble (tip: find a small paper clip and straighten with a short bend at the end to push out the pin)
If you have small hands this would not be a good choice for you
Only one magazine was included in the order

This is the 2nd RIA 1911 I have bought and both have been a pleasant surprise considering their price point. This pistol is the flagship of the RIA double stack pro series of pistols. It is the only gun in the RIA lineup that features checkering in the front grip strap.At around 3 lbs empty its a beast for the range and competition, but not for daily carry. Frame to slide fit is exceptional with zero play at the rear and may .001 at the front. 5 inch bull barrel with a integral feed ramp which is critical for any .40sw or 10mm cartridge for reliable feeding. Just put the first 100 through it ran great, only FTF when I limp wristed shooting single handed some Freedom Munitions 165 gr. reloads, not as accurate as factory Federal 180 fmj. 1 to 2 inches free hand at 7 yards. Four star rating only because all RIA pistols come with only 1 mag, for double stack pistols thats a pain to buy spares and difficult to find in stock. RIA pistols sell fast so buy ASAP when they come in stock.

I bought this pistol in order to introduce myself to 1911-style competition guns, and I am glad I did. This pistol is an excellent Limited Division pistol. My copy runs anything I feed it: factory loads, competition ammo, my own reloads. At 50oz on my scale, this thing absorbs recoil nicely and comes with a better-than-expected, crisp trigger. My only complaint was that is was a little heavy for a competition gun, but I have made that complaint about every single factory competition pistol I have bought. Full dust cover, bull barrel, ambi safety, G10 grips, fibre front sight and fully adjustable rear blackout sight. Basically everything you could ask for in a limited pistol. And it fits the Bladetech STI Edge holster. I got the slide cerakoted, changed out the decent grips for better ones, had the trigger internals polished and switched out a few springs and now races like a champ. For not too much more, this thing competes easily with my Tanfo Elite Limited--a pistol I am rather fond of. And if you want a fulll overhaul, you could always send it to Hayes Custom. If you want to get into Limited on the relative cheap, this is the pistol for you. If you want a 10mm, you can order a 10mm barrel and 20lb recoil spring from Rock Island. (The barrel will need fitting but that's it.)

The complete purchasing process went without any problems from Bud's notifying me when the Rock Island Armory 51738 PRO Ultra Match HC Single 40 S&W 5 17+1 Black G10 Grip Black was back in stock to completing the transfer with the receiving dealer. After a through cleaning, I shot a hundred rounds at 25 yards with no malfunctions. The pistol with a full magazine is no lite-weight but very comfortable to shoot with little felt recoil. I own several Rock Island High Capacity pistols in other calibers & have been completely satisfied with their reliability.

Got this gun on a chance it would be similar to my 1011 45 ACP and little thicker and bulky than my 45. It is big, weighty and not as comfortable in the hands. Plan on taking it to the range this weekend to run a few mags through it. Overall look of the gun is nice, grips are a good quality, adjustable sights and well made.
