Can you also use the sights? As in the rear sight high enough to clear the optic and meet the front sight. incase the optic battery was to die on me?

Brian, yes you can. The sights are cowitnessed with the red dot, so no worries if your battery goes dead. Have a great day!

Brian, yes the sights on this are higher than your average sights so they cowitness with the red dot. So you will have no issue using the sights in case of emergency. Hope this helps.

Does this model have a safety? Also, is the trigger able to be switched by apex? Heard the optics model m&p’s are tricky to switch triggers in.

The iron sights are just plain white dot sights, and this comes with a crimson trace red dot. Hope this helps.

Been wanting to get a handgun with a red dot for a while and when I saw the price drop on this M&P compact I jumped on it. Been to the range once and shot about 150 rounds of mixed brass and steel cased ammo. Like every other S&W I own (M&P 40 fullsize and compact and a Shield 9mm) it worked flawlessly. No breaking in period, no jams, no issues whatsoever. Loved the red dot. Easy to mount, adjust and I enjoyed using it. Don't have anything to compare the red dot to, but for a beginner, no complaints. Looking forward to getting a light and holster and setting it up for carry.

Shipping was quick, firearm looked great… but I’m still going back and forth with S&W and crimson trace about a replacement mounting plate for the optic. I’m offering to just purchase a new one, I just want one that works right (the one that came with it was warped so when I tighten the screws it props the front of the red dot up).
I’ve only put a couple hundred rounds through it but so far it’s working great.
