• Q: As a follow-up to a previously asked question, is there a way to tell which 762x39 CAN be used at the range? A couple inexpensive options would be appreciated since I can't go to Buds with a magnet to check them all out. If anyone has experience with a product that works well in a Norinco SKS, I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

• Q: The range I normally go to does not allow steel core or steel jacketed ammunition. Please note that I'm referring to the bullet itself, not the case. Most of the Russian ammo had a copper washed steel bullet jacket, so attracted a magnet and was not allowed. I would like to know if this is the same type of construction, or if it uses an actual copper jacket and doesn't attract a magnet. Thank You.

  Hi Jerrod and welcome. This is magnetic. Straight from Sterling : Each cartridge is equipped with a full metal jacket and an ample amount of powder, propelling the 123-grain projectile at a velocity of 2,362 fps. The FMJ does contain steel, which makes it magnet-attractive. Therefore, it's advisable not to use this ammo at ranges that disapprove of such materials. Additionally, it is noncorrosive, which is a bonus.

  True AK-47 enthusiasts are no strangers to Russian-made 7.62x39 ammunition. But Russia hasn’t monopolized the 7.62x39 market – not by a long shot. Sterling of Turkey has also gotten in on the gas-operated, closed rotating bolt action!
  This ammunition does have all the same features as its Russian equivalent, though. That starts with its 123 grain full metal jacket projectiles, which have lead cores and bimetal jackets. A bimetal jacket is mainly comprised of steel, so make no mistake: this ammo’s bullet’s will attract a magnet, so you may be disallowed from firing them at certain commercial ranges.
  Ammo like this is relatively inexpensive thanks to its steel cases. You’re paying for next to zero copper when you buy steel-cased ammo, which makes high-volume shooting less impactful on your net worth. Take care that steel cases aren’t reloadable.
  Sterling’s ammo is just as noncorrosive as any premium brass-cased ammo you could get from America. This is newly manufactured ammo – not military surplus that was stored in questionable conditions.
