Stoeger expands their series to include the .40 S&W caliber with the introduction of the new STR-40 pistols.  Each STR-40 comes outfitted with a three-dot sight system featuring snag-resistant edges to ensure smooth draws and holstering. Optional tritium night sights are available.  Among the STR-40's integrated safety features is a tactile loaded-chamber indicator on the top of the receiver that automatically raises when a round is chambered. This allows the user to confirm the presence of a round in the chamber by touch in low light.  The STR-40 semi-automatic pistol comes standard with features found in handguns costing far more. Integrated trigger safety, interchangeable backstrap, easy-grip slide, tactical rail and last-shot-lock-back slide to name a few.

I was pretty excited initially about getting this. I own one other Stoeger firearm (STR-9C) that I like very much and the sub $300 price point seemed like a good value for what appears to be a pretty good sized carry .40. Only comes with one mag. Therein lies the problem, I am having follower issues with the magazine where the ammunition won't seat correctly on the top of the lip causing it to FTF. I couldn't even get 100 rounds out of it during its first range session due to having to clear jams every 2 or 3 rounds. Speaking with Stoeger currently about a new magazine, have also ordered another one to see if that fixes the issue. Until I can get a full range session in, I cannot recommend this unit as is. This review does not reflect on the service I received from Buds, which was top notch as always.

I’ve been reading reviews on Stoeger handguns lately and thought I’d give this 40 cal. a try. I haven’t fired it but it feels good in the hand and feels well made and buds is always easy to buy from. I would definitely recommend.

light weight gun. It came without any lubricant unfortunately. I like the price. Have shot it yet. But so far I’m liking.

This is a really sturdy feeling pistol. The value you're getting for that surprisingly low price can't be mentioned enough. The only problem you will have is finding magazines. They are out of production. Luckily this pistol is identical to the berretta cougar, so you can purchase those magazines for just under 40 bucks.
