This is a very well made sharps rifle and shoots fantastic. very pleased with rifle, loved this one so much after shooting it also ordered the trapdoor one.

This is my first sharps rifle and I’m glad I made that decision. The fit and finish of this firearm is incredible and it shoots like a dream. Buds shipped my rifle the next day and I had it in hand before the week ended. All around pleasant experience!

My McNelly Sharps .45-70 is awesome, as was the service/shipping from Bud’s. The bluing and case hardening colors are truly a sight to behold on this rifle and I personally appreciate the gloss finish on the black walnut. However, a few items did stand out that might be considered negative to some folks that I will mention. Immediately obvious to my FFL transfer dealer was the absence of a caliber designation stamping anywhere on this rifle. I removed the forearm also, but no .45-70 on the barrel or receiver. Not a problem for me at all, and may just be an oversight during manufacture. Secondly, and more importantly, my McNelly will not chamber factory Winchester 405gr Cowboy Action Lead Flat Nose ammo. It’s the bullet shape that prevents the cartridge chambering fully and others have mentioned this. The lands start at the end of the chamber, as per the original, so RNFP type bullets would need to be seated deeper if reloading or a gunsmith could ream the lands a bit if shooting factory ammo is the only option. Interestingly, the manual only specifies factory ammo as a condition of warranty. My Sierra 300gr JHP bullets loaded normally to the cannalure chamber just fine. Lastly, I found the wood-to-metal fit at the rear forearm to receiver junction was slightly twisted, preventing usage of the takedown lever without first removing the forearm. Fortunately, the forearm mounting base is dovetailed into the barrel and a few light taps moved the dovetail base to correctly allow a proper forearm to receiver fit. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

I agonized for several weeks before ordering this carbine, I had read many negative comments about Ami Sport firearms. After talking to an individual who owned one, and was happy with the purchase I decided to order it. When the rifle arrived at my FFL, I looked it over carefully, and everything was good so I filled at the forms and took it home. I was amazed by the highly figured butt stock, it was beautiful. The case hardening on the receiver, barrel band and butt plate is very nice and distinctive. The barrel has a deep blue back finish that was was nicely polished. At the range she performed well at 50 yard line. I was shooting 1 1/4" three shot groups with 340 gr lead cowboy loads. The rear sight very small making it difficult to see. I have ordered a vernier tang sight and I expect my groups to improve. However, the rear sight is an accurate reproduction of the original sharps sights. When compared to an original Sharps conversion carbine the markings are very close copies. The only differences I noted were the hammer nose was longer than the original, and the firing pin striking face protrusion was about 1/8" shorter than the original. Overall the action was silky smooth and fired cartridges extracted easily. I am certainly happy with the rifle.

The McNelly Carbine was much nicer than expected. The “ case hardened “ metal is beautiful with vivid colors and the wood on the forearm has a nice stripe. So far one of my favorite replicas in my collection.
