If your looking for a unique hunting rifle the Mini 30 would make a great choice, 7.62x39 is similar to 30-30 which is more than enough to take down a white tail deer. These newer mini 30s are a lot more accurate than the older ones. Be aware that it may or may not like steel cased ammo, as mine had issues with tula and brown bear.

I've had this rifle for quite some time and have actually yet to shoot it. However, i bought it because i already have the tactical version and i love it. I held off for a long time because of so many stories of them not firing with steel cased ammo. I guess Ruger fixed this because my tactical model will chew it up and spit it out for breakfast. I use it as a deer rifle though in our hardwoods here in the south east and i have to say it does an outstanding job at that. They are short and easy to maneuver and have adequate power for whitetails. If you have thought about it for as long as i did i want to say, jump on it! You won't regret it.

I am thankful that Ruger finally decided to reproduce M-30 in the blue steel/wood and for Buds sending me that email that they had them in stock at a great price.i know this rifle isn’t on everyone’s list to buy but where I live it’s passable in owning and doesn’t break the bank. I haven’t had the chance yet to test it out at the range but that’s only a matter of time. The process to purchase from Buds was easy, definitely would recommend and buy from again. The only hard part was waiting for the M-30 to arrive because I live in NYC and no FFL on Buds list. Shame on NYC for doing this, so I had to go out to Long Island to pick up. The FFL I chose was great. He emailed me back if I had any questions, notified me when it arrived, accommodated his schedule on picking up and made the paper process very easy. It’s been about a week gone by and I’m very happy with the whole experience. Thank you Buds once again for getting me my Christmas gift to me, from me, early.
