Good gun. Not too light and not at all heavy. I've fired over 200 rounds of steel casings and not once has it jammed. Trigger pull is average. Very happy with it.

I BOUGHT THIS RUGER 'AMERICAN' BASED SOELY ON THE RUGER REPUTATION....WHAT A LET DOWN. FROM THE GET-GO THIS PISTOL HAS FAILED TO CONSISTENTLY CHAMBER AND FIRE WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I'VE TRIED DIFFERENT AMMO...FACTORY FMJ LOADS..SOME RE-LOADS..MAKES NO DIFFERENCE I IS NOT A RELIABLE PISTOL. SO I SELDOM TRY TO SHOOT IT ANYMORE AND AM ALWAYS PLANNING TO TAKE IT TO MY GUNSMITH...BUT NEVER DO. MAYBE NOW I WILL...BUT I'LL NEVER BE MY "GO-TO-FIREARM" .

I bought this .45 American, sight unseen, based on favorable (and some unfavorable) reviews online. I am not disappointed. Trigger - some obvious take-up, then a relatively short, fairly light break. I compared, over and over again, the Ruger trigger to the single action release on my FNX-45. Virtually the same at 5.5lbs, and about the same length of pull at that weight. No external safety, no grip safety, no magazine disconnect. Pull the trigger, it goes bang. That's good! I have this love hate relationship with Novak sights. I don't like the totally square outline in back, but like the overall shape. The RAP has a front sight that's too narrow for me. Too much open space there. I would prefer something a little bit wider in front (compared to the rear sight notch). The three dots are nice. Some online reviewers don't like the way the frame is shaped in the beavertail section. Too wide and too square. I take an XL glove, and can see how some hands might have problems, as well as some hand positions, as taught in various venues. I don't have a problem, and prefer the medium insert rather than the wider and longer large insert. The manual tells you about all sorts of things. They almost warn you "Do Not Eat This Pistol", they're so fanatic. They missed one thing (at least). When you field strip the pistol - DO NOT TOUCH THE TAKE DOWN LEVER ONCE THE SLIDE IS OFF THE FRAME. Don't ask me how I know, but its easy for the lever to actually fall out of the frame if you manipulate it once the pistol is field stripped. If you do that, you're gonna have a bugger of a time getting it back in, unless you move one little lever, oh so very slightly to the front. Can't describe it here, its too complex. But... I contacted Ruger, and sure enough, they had a "DOH!" moment. Maybe they'll revise the manual. I don't like the trigger release lock - it just feels weird, needs a more rounded bottom for me. Other than that, no failures at all, except a few failures of the slide to hold back... while hand racking! Has not failed at all while shooting. The follower is over-riding the slide stop nub internally. Might have to call Ruger again on that. I like the pistol. A few minor shortcomings, but overall, its a good pistol, its 45ACP, and its Ruger. Bud's, as usual, shipped ultra fast, and has the BEST communication of any online dealer I've ever encountered.
