I'm very happy with this S&W 640 Pro. I shot this revolver on the range 3,5,and 7 yards. Using 38 's FMJs, wadcutters and hollow points very accurate and no problem hitting a playing card at those distances. Its alot lighter than a Ruger Sp101 and will make a perfect pocket pistol . Thank you Buds.

Smith and Wesson J frame revolvers are arguably the finest concealed carry option available to the average citizen. The S&W 640 Pro is a great option with enhanced features. This particular revolver is not Smith and Wesson's best effort. The trigger action is gritty and hangs at times without releasing the internal hammer. Removing the side plate shows the internal frame covered in rust. Unfortunately this has previously been found in another S&W purchase. The thumb piece is positioned too far above the frame partly due to a bent cylinder bolt in the internal lock work. May also be the incorrect thumb piece for a j frame. This is one purchaser's experience.

A superb revolver. Excellent fit and finish. Perfect lockup, perfect spacing of the cylinder from the forcing cone. The sights are wonderful compared to any J Frame that has a trough rear sight and a stubby front sight. The laser engraving is very good and the S&W emblem on the left side looks great. This revolver was fired exactly twice at the factory to proof it, which is S&W's practice. I will fire it almost exclusively with .38 Specials but will check out with a box of the Gold Dot Short Barrel Personal Protection .357 Mag ammo (990 fps) to see how that works! Excellent overall and while not inexpensive may be the best of the J frames. Bud's service was excellent too.

This is hand's down the best S&W J Frame made. The sights are phenomenal!!! The 640 Pro is so good I purchased 2 of them for my Brooklyn Back-Up follow in the footsteps of the great NYPD Stakeout Squad gunfighter Jim Cirillo. Since I am originally from Brooklyn, New York and retired after a 27 year career. Additional I mirror carry them in the fantastic DeSantis FLETC holsters with 2×2×2 hardware. RJCjr.

I bought this updated version of the 640 to replace my OG 640. At my age, I found I was experiencing difficulty visually resolving the vestigial sights on the old gun. I obtained this newer version primarily for the more visible sights. Now I can actually hit a target at farther than belly gun range. I had some concerns about reports of poor S&W quality control in recent years, but I must admit this gun is perfect. I consider it the best of the J-Frames and I have had quite a few. The DAO trigger is on par with vintage S&W’s I have that date from the 1950’s. I have over 150 rounds through it (in the space of a few days). I don’t recommend actually firing 357 ammunition in any J-Frame, but if you insist on it then this all steel gun is the only way to do it. Your hand will thank you. The gun is not too heavy for pocket carry in a proper pocket holster. Don;t let the internet talking heads fool you. You’ll want the steel if you actually fire the gun. For those of us who graduated from the “old school”, I highly recommend this particular J-Frame version. The one I received is a jewel.

This Smith & Wesson Model 640 Pro 357 Magnum Revolver is the best J frame available from Smith & Wesson. In fact it is so good I purchased 2!!! Nothing faster than a Brooklyn, New York Backup and Reload. Rob.

This is gonna be the best, defensive, revolver I own! The sights are fantastic despite what other people say, they are spot on an easy to see for old eyes. It fits easily in my pocket and the way he is not a problem. Don’t even know it’s there. it feels fantastic in my hand Smith & Wesson really knock this one out of the park and Buds had the best price saved a lot of money. Thank you.
