After receiving the Chioppa M12A from Buds I looked it over and was happy with the way it was put together resembling the original M1 carbine. The only thing I wished it had was the wooden stock.

Apparently, I got the pick of the litter. Gun runs like it ought to. NOW! To buy appropriate mags! I only wish this little lady took Glock mags instead of Barretta!

This carbine runs great! I had a grand total of only one jam in over 700 rounds fired; this includes brass, steel, and aluminum cased cartridges. The two supplied 10-round magazines worked great, as did 6 old Beretta 92F magazines (15 round). This gun is VERY reliable in function. Now for the downside: The rear site fell off. I used some lock-tight and it is now secure; however, the elevation adjustment is loose and the sight doesn't hold its position. Too bad that Chiappa put such a crappy rear sight on this carbine. It can be made to work well enough with some minor work.

First, the item arrived at the FFL in a box packed with a broken block of foam with the mags floating around getting scratched up. Looks like no one is paying attention to quality control. Next, the rifle has too many plastic parts that I expect to break at any time. Some can be replaced with original GI parts but it just looks flimsy. The stock is tough but unfinished. There were many molding edges untrimmed that catch your hand that will need to be filed away. The mag release button is extended and not fenced. this may be a problem with activating when hit. With all that the rating would be a 3 star if the rifle was not so much fun to shoot! the short action functions fine with all FMJ ammo. I've had 1 failure to feed that was probably ammo induced. The recoil is punchy but that adds to the enjoyment. It feels and shoots like an original 30cal M1 carbine. The 2 10 round mags have a follower that holds the bolt open on last round. Other mec-gar 20 round mags work fine with no failures or slop in the mag well. The sights are an ok reproduction. The rear is marked for windage adjustment. The front may need to be filed down if you want exact accuracy. This is a Good value for the fun

Pass on this , I really like the idea of this gun but Chiappa came up way short on their end. This firearm doesn’t have the quality you want, its cheap metal and plastic, something is always loose, stripped or needs to be replaced. It is also overpriced for what you get and they have the worst customer service I’ve experienced, replacement parts you will need are out of stock, lots of better options out there .

I really wanted to like this gun. However, it's tough to like a gun with poor accuracy, a canted front sight, and feeding issues. A simple blow back 9mm rifle with feeding issues? Yes. And it is all due to the fact that Chiappa went with a Beretta 92 mag. The upward angle of the rounds creates the same feeding issue sporadically. They should have angled the mag or went with something like a Colt SMG or Uzi mag. The rear sight setup is a mess as well. I ended up dimpling my upper so that the rear sight set screw would have something to hold it in place, something that should have been done at the factory. Also, no bolt hold open, can't load a full mag on a closed bolt without some force, and not all aftermarket 92F mags work. I can not recommend this gun to anyone.

good purchase from buds fast shipping good experience i wanted a 9mm carbine and like the looks of the chiappa the price was good. took it to the range put 80 rounds through it no problems.even shot win steel case with no problems. thanks ralph

I was a little hesitant to pick one of these up. Chiappa has not impressed me in the past. That said, a un-SAFE act compliant pistol caliber carbine is hard to find and harder still to find at a reasonable price. I took the one I bought to the range and put about 150 rounds through it, and it functioned FAR better than I expected. It fed and ejected without any problems. The return spring is a bit stronger than it needs to be and the one I have seems to have some problems with the stock fit. Also field stripping is not easy and locking the action back is not possible, so cleaning can be an issue. That said, it's fun to shoot, and accurate enough that it'll hit near where you're aiming; for the price you could do worse. Can't really say I recommend it unless, like me, you really want a rifle that fires pistol cartridges.
