There are two main PPE items a shooter needs - earpro and eyepro. I already had invested in good ears, but I needed to get some better glasses than what I had since the name-brand budget pair I bought when I first got a pistol had, on numerous occasions, allowed hot brass in where it wasn't supposed to be. After some research, I learned about the different ratings for eyepro lenses (ANSI z87.1+ and APEL). APEL lenses are rated to a higher ballistic standard than the ANSI, but are not allowed to be sold to civilians. That being said, it gave me a good place to start when searching for a manufacturer since there is an official list of who makes the APEL rated spectacles. Crossbow is on that list for APEL spectacles, and from what I was able to tell from comparing what they have on the website, the only real difference between the APEL kits they sell and the civilian kits is labelling and lens color options. I have been super pleased with mine. Optic clarity is excellent (I say that as a wearer of actual prescription glasses for over 40 years - not all lenses are made well...) and I don't notice them when at the range. They're comfortable, relatively easy to switch lenses on, and seem pretty robust. I can't say much about how scratch resistant they are since as a regular glasses wearer, I've learned to take care of my glasses. I highly recommend this kit as a great value for the price (and Bud's had the best price going when I got mine) and a great product from a US manufacturer!
