The Phoenix Arms HP22 is a ligthweight compact .22 LR psitol. When it was taken out of the box, the magazine was installed and would not initially release. Reading the instructions is very helpful, because there are two separate safeties on the firearm. The first is on the frame just under the slide, and has to be in the safe position in order to release the magazine. The second safety is on the slide and is the firing block safety. Both safeties have to be off in order for the pistol to fire. The main issue with the pistol was cycling. It seemed the ammunition was having difficulty loading into the chamber and then sometimes ejecting. Upon tearing the pistol down, it was quite obvious there was a burr on the side of the feed ramp near the chamber. The burr has since been removed, however, the firearm has not yet been tested since. For now, this is a two star pistol out of the box, not just because of the feed ramp issue, but it will undoubtedly be a challenge to utilize teh pistol effectively in an emergency situation while remembering to deactivate both safeties.

This is a convincing .22, heavy to the feel and elegantly designed. It’s one drawback, and it’s a major one, is the complexity in firing it. It has no less than four safeties, all of which need to be disengaged in sequence. It makes for a very awkward “draw and fire”. I bought it to teach my wife, but it was too challenging for her, and I ended up instructing her on my 45 acp, which she found straightforward and learnable. I rate it 3 stars, although the star function on this review page does not seem to work properly.

670 rounds in and this thing just keep emptying mags without issue, first gun I've ever bought and love it. I recommend (CCI AR Tactical 22 Long Rifle Ammo 40 Grain Copper Plated Lead Round Nose) as the ammo as it stays near the rated fps for this gun at 1200 fps, and also is a "clean" burning and functioning ammo, designed for ARs but perfect for this 3 inch semi auto pistol. Have ran over 600 of the CCI AR copper plate ammo in this gun and virtually 0 issues or damage to gun has occurred and I still consider getting another one these guns in future constantly. Once you get a hang of how the gun works, and you decide you still don't like it, it'd have to be a defected gun or you didn't do any research before buying.

I absolutely love this Lil. 22 as a matter of fact I shot the crap out of it yesterday target practicing to figure out the aim of the gun and its dead on the money once u figure the aim out ,I couldn't miss with it yesterday and I'm not the greatest marksman in the world but it shoots great I use CCI mini mags as my preferred ammo and I haven't had 1 issue at all. It's very easy to disassemble ,may take a time or two to get the hang but it's a simple made gun that serves its purpose and that's to confidently fire when needed. I advise buying the extended grip mag for grip purposes but all in all a great Lil gun. If I had one complaint it would be that the gun is too safe lol. It takes time to learn the weapon but I have kids so the extra safties are a plus for me but I thought I'd throw that in there because it maybe a turn off for some people but it's the safest pistol I've ever owned or seen. I've put up my sub compact 9mms and only carry this gun for now on, it's all a man needs and is way more comfortable to carry fs. Ty

Great little pistol, easy to disassemble for cleaning, accurate, has two safeties, one locks out the firing pin the other locks out the trigger and when off prevents the mag from dropping. Very low recoil.

Shot ok. I guess with 22lr you can expect some light strikes. Some odd functions to the gun. You can't pull back the slide without a mag in. Wish I'd have spent a little more for a different gun.

The gun is fun to shoot. The improvements I'd like to see are, 1 the slide needs to be smoother, it's has one bump that hinders the action a little. 2 the safety has to be on to release the magazine. 3 the safety is the slide stop. 4 on disassembly watch out for the spring! It will take off on you. Other then that it is a decent weapon to shoot.
