You get what you pay for. In this case, an incredibly relatable yet simple shotgun. I’ve had no issues in my first few boxes, and you can’t beat the price for essentially a Mossberg 500.

It's a handy size and the synthetic furniture is great. Solid gun. The shell stop is tight, but it will break in.

My first shotgun and absolutely love it. I wanted to write a "real" review after giving the gun some range time with a variety of ammo. Fit and finish was excellent (besides the usual "Mossberg Rattle"). Took it to the range and shot a variety of ammo including; slugs, buckshot and birdshot... Cero malfunctions out of the box! No lube or cleaning. It's still running smooth as the first time with minimal lubing or cleaning. Highly recommend. There's a lot of aftermarket stuff for it since almost every Mossberg 500 stuff will fit the Maverick 88. Bud's service has always been top notch.

Purchased this Maverick 88 when things were all good for the low price of $165.00 over 2 years ago. Still have the 5 round pump 88 and it’ll always be by my side! Not one issue yet with 3” slugs, 23/4 oo buck, and all sorts of bird shot! The quality is very nice almost like all Mossberg 12ga! Very happy with this shotgun. 👍🏼

This is my first firearm purchase, and I have absolutely no regrets. Very easy to clean and take apart, and the recoil isn't terrible, even with 00 buck. Brought this with me to shoot with a bunch of friends, and literally the only thing they noticed was the Flat Dark Earth color, lol

Easy to understand I look forward to the range

Good quality piece of equipment for the price, Maverick is Mossberg essentially. Upgrades are readily available to turn this utility shotgun into a decent level HP or fun-gun. Bud’s also shipped quite rapidly from their East US location to me on the west coast. Product came precisely as listed, in OEM box with all expected items.
FFL was not listed as one of Buds’ preferred, but not a single issue - complete confidence in shopping online from this company. Be advised if you’re a Commifornia resident as I am temporarily, state mandatory waiting period is 10-30 days once item is received at in-state FFL (purchase + shipping + wait = approx 1 month for us), even if you were just approved days prior for a separate weapon purchase as I was. On top of that, Commifornia fees added another $134, so the $250 gun turned into nearly $400 as a CA resident. Heinous.

A great little shotgun at a very good price !!!

I wanted a simple, but reliable pump-12. My desire was to purchase an Ithaca Model 37 Defender, but I really didn't want to spend upwards of $800.00 for a shotgun. I studied the options and after watching Hickok45 review the Maverick 88, I chose the 18.5 5+1 version with dark earth stock and fore-end. The location of the safety on the Maverick is forward of the trigger instead of on the backside of the receiver, as on the Mossberg 500. The Maverick 88's safety location is what I prefer of the two variations, but my personal choice is, safety BEHIND the trigger, (Ithaca 37, Remington 870)... I ended up filling the stock with duct putty to quiet the hollow sound and add a little weight in order to tame the recoil a little. After ordering the swivels for the sling mount and adding the sling, this is my go-to home defense / house gun. 00 Buck is the first one out through the loud end, followed by 4 Buck, 00 Buck, 4 Buck, 00 Buck, 00 Buck...

Awesome shotgun. Havent been able to get to the range but will go this week. Price was well within reason. Very easy to work with and transfer was seamless.
