Hard to aim but fun to shoot. Had a difficult time finding .22 mag shells for quite a while, but now I can find them with little trouble. Due to the nature of the firearm it is a little problematic at first to figure out the best way to handle it and aim. I handle it like a handgun and it is definitely fun to shoot and cycles ammo without issue. Took me the better part of a year to find a mare's leg, but Bud's came thru as usual. Used to watch this gun on one of my father's favorite tv westerns as a kid and wanted one ever since.

Not everything in life it practical or necessary; this Henry is an example of that. But, I had to have it. It’s considered a handgun because of the length but it doesn’t shoot like one nor does it shoot like a rifle. I’m going to devise some sort of leather strap to go on the shoulder to push this gun out to make it more stable but it’s definitely a fun little shooter. Good luck finding a holster or carry option for it. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because your getting less gun for the money but you’re paying way more for it.

Looks really cool However…. I consider myself a pretty fair marksman but not with this. Difficult to shoot with accuracy. Same with friends who tried it. Quality of the product is what you would expect from Henry. EXCELLENT.

Fun little shooter, and the quality exceeds the price.

I picked up the gun from my FFL dealer and went staright to the range to try it out. I took the gun out of the box and made no adjustments to the sights. I shot 16 rounds through it at the range and all 16 were in the target from 15 yards with 3 shots in the bullseye. No adjustment of the sights was necessary although they are a little difficult to see for mt old eyes. The action of the gun was great. Not to mention Bud's quick delivery of the gun.

Fantastic firearm. I got the 22mag version of the Mares Leg. It shoots like a laser beam, smooth as butter on action and trigger. 1/2” groups at 50 yards. I ride in the high country with my mules a lot, and this is the perfect saddle gun. It’s long enough to use with incredible accuracy, short enough to make it always accessible. There is only one downside. The sights Henry puts on these are terrible. The front post is so short that you can’t adjust the rear sight to accommodate. Also too short to accommodate a skinner sight. It was cheap to put on a red dot. Use a 3/8” dovetail to Picatinny adapter ($8) and use your favorite optic. I would have done this anyway, so the poor sights didn’t have any effect on my opinion. I will be buying the 22LR and the 357mag Henry Mares Legs as soon as possible.

This is my first Henry product, and based upon initial impression not likely my last. The build and finish quality is first-rate. All surfaces are nicely finished and the gun functions with utter smoothness right out of the box! The walnut stock is a perfect satin finish. Manipulating the lever action reveals a glass-smooth action without a hitch. Even the tubular magazine insert operates with complete smoothness. I think that would be the overriding description of this Henry's Mare's leg....smooth! For those in California, this gun transferred without a hitch, so for those interested, or think they may someday want one, better act fast before they create a new restriction!

My new Mares Leg 22mag handles extremely well at the range, has good balance and is a new experience in targe shooting, I give 5 stars.
