I get the impression that the 1500 is a step up in quality compared to the Gameking. Am I right? Does it have a better barrel or receiver than the other models? thanks, Ken

Yes it is Ken. It has a Two stage match trigger and Forged one piece bolt with two locking lugs. It has a much stiffer stock with excellent bedding pillars and a forend that won't move compared to the Gameking line.
