Hi Daniel, This will fire both 308 and 7.62 x 51 with no issues. You can fire 7.62 in this rifle but you should be aware that the 7.62 ammo can be a bit longer than your .308 chamber and still be in spec. Most American manufacturers realize this and load them short enough to function in the .308, but I work on a public range and see that some rifles have problems digesting some 7.62 ammo. It's not a dangerous situation. The bolt just will not close easily or at all.
