Hank - short and sweet ... Bluing, true bluing, is pretty, very nice to look at, and takes a lot of care to maintain in top condition. The coating on this Colt looks good, is also nice to look at, and doesn't require nearly the TLC of bluing to maintain it in top shape. This finish is tougher than bluing, and will last longer. It is more corrosion resistant than bluing. If you want a "barbecue" 1911 that spends most of its life in a nice leather holster, to be pulled out and shown off, then get a blued 1911. If you want a range gun, that will actually be shot, and see some heavy duty range days, then get this one. I've owned both - I shoot a lot - I much prefer the finishes like Colt uses on this gun. Shoot it, wipe it down with a bit of oil, and don't worry about 'babying' it.

Anodizing is a much more dull finish. Only aluminum can be anodized so I’m guessing the frame is aluminum. The slide has to be steel and will have to be coated with something to match the anodizing.
