Bersa Thunder 380 Overview

First introduced in 1995, the Bersa Thunder 380 is a lightweight double-action semi-automatic pistol that fires .380 ACP ammunition. It is available in a variety of finishes and is similar in design and features with the compact Beretta 70, and Walther PPK, but is value priced and marketed at half the cost of the PPK. Even so, the Bersa Thunder provides quality, reliability, and most of all affordability, for a .380 compact semi-auto pistol. The Bersa Thunder 380, with a 7 round magazine, is intended for civilian use as concealed carry, and enjoys popularity in South American countries. The Ecuadorian Air Force also utilizes the Bersa Thunder 380 in their military service as an issued weapon.



Some of the first Bersa semi-auto pistols were weighty due to an all steel frame construction, but the Bersa Thunder 380 is lighter because the frame is made of aluminum alloy, decreasing the weight for easier carry potential. Even so, the pistol retains enough weight to help tame the recoil. The pistol is designed on a smaller frame construction, which is perfect for females and males with small to medium sized hands. The extended grip magazine design also helps to comfortably accommodate the rest of the fingers when the forefinger is on the trigger. The blowback, fixed-barrel design is believed to help provide improved accuracy. There is also an extra safety feature built into the Bersa Thunder 380; there is a slide mounted safety and hammer safety decocking lever. The overall length is about 6.6 inches, with a barrel length of 3.54 inches, and weighs in at just about 1.44 lbs. when empty. The Thunder 380 is also equipped with windage adjustable 3 dot sights. When considering a concealed carry pistol, the Bersa Thunder 380 is one of the better options, due in no small part to the ease of concealment, reduced weight, and an attractive price.
