HK VP9 Overview

First introduced in 2014, the VP9 is a striker-fired, locked breech, “Browning type” tilt barrel pistol, and features a Picatinny rail. The HK VP9 carries the factory designation of the SFP9-SF. Of course these are both the same gun, but since HK’s are sold abroad, some alteration were needed in Germany to accommodate governmental restriction on the trigger system. The difference in the trigger constitute a different factory designation, which is the SFP9-TR. The VP9 is a polymer frame gun that sports an ambidextrous magazine release, lefthanded slide release, built in trigger safety, and drift only dovetail sights. The sights are a 3-dot configuration and can be ordered in tritium for low light and nighttime visibility. Other safety features include a “loaded chamber” indicator which is located to the rear of the ejection port, and is clearly visible in red when a round is in the chamber. The VP9 has a staged safety trigger, much like that of the Glock. There is an opening in the rear of the slide which allows the shooter to see if the internal striker is in the cocked position.

You have to believe that every great company, especially firearms manufacturers, attempts to learn from the past and desires to make a better model every time that they go back to the design departments; H&K is certainly no different. Since 1944, Heckler & Koch have repeatedly set the overall bar pretty high. In terms of design and functionability, they are one of the top contenders in the foodchain of gun evolution. When you have models like the P30, that have as recently as 2010 shot over 90,000 rounds without a part failure……...now that’s something to brag about and build upon. No, they are not a cheap gun, but as with the case of so many things these days, “you get what you pay for”, and with H&K you certainly do.
