Kel Tec Sub 2000 Overview

Kel-Tec is one of the America’s successful firearm stories. When creating his gun design for foreign companies, Swede Saint George Kellgren landed within the Everglades State to work for Swedish subsidiary Intratec, manufacturers of the now disreputable TEC-9. In 1991, Kellgren lived the dream, forming Kel-Tec CNC Industries in Cocoa Beach, FL. Since 1995, his factory been producing little, inexpensive semi-auto pistols, and then moving onto carbines and rifles in 9mm, 40 S&W and 5.56mm (amongst others).



One such rifle is the Kel Tec Sub 2000. The steel stock of Kel Tec Sub 2000 contains the bolt and capped on the end by the polymer butt stock. The tough two-piece steel bolt holds the striker, the extractor and has an operational handle on the lower. A captive guide recoil spring with buffer actuates the bolt. The bolt is of a typical single action type. It’s an extremely safe firearm; a push bolt safety blocks the sear and disengages the trigger bar. The hardened steel ejector is internal. This neat little fold-away rifle is just a little over 16 inches in length, and is very accurate. The overall height of the gun is 7 inches. This rifle is clip fed via the handgrip, and is available in 9X19MM and .40 S&W. There are several clips that are made to work in this gun, those being Glock, Beretta, Smith & Wesson, and Sig. The clips can be bought in a multitude of capacities up to 33 rounds.



These rifles are scarce at times due to their high demand and the fact that the people who buy them, seem to hold on to them. They are not terribly expensive, and for backpackers, boaters, outdoorsmen, and hikers, they seem to hold a special allure.
