Springfield XDS Overview

Introduced in 2012, the Springfield XDS is the first single stack compact, in the already highly touted XD line of pistol. This great little pistol has all of the bells and whistles of the XD line, except for the “cocked” indicator in the back of the slide. The XDS is a striker fired, self ­loading, semi-automatic pistol, which uses a short action lock breech cycling system. The XDS has so many extras that come standard, it’s going to be impossible not to leave something out. Let’s get started. There is the stainless steel barrel which is housed inside a solid block slide that is machine milled. The frame is made of a high density polymer that has steel inserts for reinforcement from the recoil stress. The trigger is actually a replica of the Glock with the safety built in. The trigger breaks clean around 6 lbs., and the recoil sends the the slide gliding back over the smoothly machined, deep cut slide rails. For those in love with an additional external safety, the XDS has incorporated a squeeze safety in at the top of the backstraps hilt. Other safety features of the XDS include a “loaded chamber” indicator. They have incorporated a dual recoil spring, in fact the same type that Glock eventually went to in the Gen4 models.



The XDS is available in the 9X19mm, and .45 ACP, with other calibers still unveiling. This little single stack defense weapon is right on point with everything that a defense weapon should be. At the 7 yard line, I was shocked at the accuracy of the model that I owned just a couple years back. That’s right, I traded it, not because I didn’t absolutely love it, but because I needed the capital to invest in other guns. My guns are like yours, they are not free, and they are not sent to me to “try out”, before I write. But I digress……..this XDS was scary accurate, to the point that if I were in a hostage situation and the perp had showed me an eye, I feel sure that the last thing to go through his mind would have been the first round out of my XDS.

This little gun is about like ending up with the prom queen and not having to wonder if life will ever get any better……...because when it comes to any of the Springfield XD series handguns, it just probably won’t!
