Would this gun be suitable for hog hunting or do you recommend a larger caliber?

Yes the .223 caliber was designed to do just that. Kill pests and feral hogs/wild boar! Hope this helps.

Leroy, this has a reinforced polymer upper and lower, so both upper and lower are polymer. This has a 1:8 twist ratio. This wouldn't be a bad first AR15 because you will likely upgrade alot of parts and that's what you want for a first time AR. You want a cheaper one that you'll slowly upgrade parts and learn the the platform. If you already own one and know the platform I'd recommend something else. Ronaldo, it sure does. This has a free float handguard Wich is what makes the barrel free floated. Hope this helps.

Loren, this model does not have a heavy contour barrel, which MD requires to be state compliant. As you know, barrels that are not heavy contour commit way more crimes than heavy barrels. (sorry couldn't help that) Have a great day!

Loren, as others have said since this model does not have a heavy barrel it's illegal in Maryland. Sounds weird but an ar15 must have a heavy barrel to be legal in Maryland. Sorry but hope this helps.
