Brian, at 1450fps, it should have enough energy to cycle/eject from a semi-auto carbine rifle. Ultimately, you wont know till you try with your particular firearm. Stay safe & have a great day!

the only answer is Maybe some guns work fine with them some will not eject and some will not chamber from the magazine

Hi Brian and welcome. Unfortunately no. I have tried these in several of my carbines and the pressure generated will eject on average of 20% of the time. Not much better from Semi-Auto handguns as well. These function best in single shot's, revolvers. It should, no guaranties. My original XD cycles their 45 shot shells no problem.

I have concerns whether the "squared" bullet would hang up in my M&P 9mm? Or would the more rounded one work better? Also, which would be better for hitting a snake?

I use it for snakes while hiking or walking the dogs. Very effective at close range (5-10’). Multiple rounds required beyond that due to spread. As always Buds fast delivery.

I Do Not recommend this product.
This round is not what I expected, at 10' the pattern exceeded the large paper target.
The penetration of the shot thru paper would not be of much use unless your hunting a mouse at less than 10'ft.
