  • Me and my husband went in a local gun shop for me to complete an FFL transfer a 22 cal handgun I made a mistake putting down a mailing address instead of residential my husband notices and proceeds to say that’s not the home address. The (employee) not the owner accused my husband and me of trying to straw purchase and my husband has done business with them before and even with the previous owners before the the new owners bought it and so I’m just wondering if This is common.

  • Hi Raelene, not sure you would be accused of a straw purchase over a simple clerical error. A lot of people have a different mailing address than their physical residential property. Definitely not the definition of a straw purchase.

  • Hi Raelene and welcome. Unfortunately, it is fairly common as transfers must be 100% accurate and most FFL's will deny transfer due to errors or any discrepancies. This is especially if they don't know you personally. Errors can bring suspicions, audits from the ATL and loss of or restriction to licenses which is their lively hood. You have to look at it from their perspective. Cheers and stay safe!
