  • Hi Chester, the Desert Eagle .357 pistol will shoot the same ammunition you use in a .357 revolver.
.38 Special will not work reliably. There is not enough pressure to cycle the action.
And LRN or open base jacketed bullets like FMJs (typical .38 ammo) will clog the gas system, which is extremely difficult to clean.
Also the OAL of the 38 spl is probably way too short to feed correctly. The rim of the case would be very close to exiting the magazine before the cartridge is lined up with the chamber. A lot of things have to be right for the DE to cycle consistently and reliably. They are very cartridge specific. I would not try .38 +P ammo for these reasons.
Stay safe & have a great day!

  • yes it is a standard 357 mag round the same as a revolver you can fire 38 special in it however it most likely will not cycle the action so it would act like a single shot pistol

  • I'll keep it simple. Yes to All Your questions on the DE shooting. 357, .38sp, .38sp +p & .38sp +p+. Buuuuuut, the .38sp will most likely not have enough energy to cycle the heavy slide on the DE.

  • Hi Chester and welcome. Yes, this firearm can fire any .357 Magnum and .38 Special, .38 Special +P or +P+ just like the .357 Magnum Revolvers. The only caveat is the milder .38 Special may not have enough recoil to reliably cycle the heavy slide. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!

  • Good evening to you!! The Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark XIX 357 Magnum Pistol does use standard size 357 ammo. 38 and 9mm do not provide enough pressure to cycle the firearm. Hope this helps, have a good rest of your day.

  • Same .357 Magnum revolver ammunition yes. For the other questions, .38 Special does not have the required energy to cycle the slide (unless possibly with a weaker recoil spring swapped out specifically for that ammo) and would also not feed reliably from the magazine, +P may be slightly better energy-wise but still may hang up in the magazine. It is really intended specifically for .357 only, out of the box.
