  • Good evening to you!! The Smith & Wesson Performance Center SW1911 Pro Series 45 ACP Pistol has more recoil than it's full size sister but with the right load it can be very manageable. My 3" 1911 is actually pleasant to shoot and carry. Hope this was helpful. Have a good rest of your weekend.

  • The Smith & Wesson Performance Center SW1911 Pro Series in .45 ACP generally has manageable recoil due to its full-size 1911 frame and a dual-recoil spring system. The weight of the pistol (around 41.1 oz unloaded) also contributes to reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip, making it relatively easy to control for follow-up shots.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    Weight:
The full-size 1911 design, combined with the weight of the stainless steel slide and scandium alloy frame, helps absorb recoil.
    Dual-recoil spring system:
This system, featuring a larger spring around a guide rod sleeve and a smaller one along the rod, helps to mitigate recoil and improve reliability.
    .45 ACP:
While .45 ACP is known for a "push" rather than a "snap" recoil, the heavier bullet does mean more energy is involved, and there can be some muzzle flip. However, the overall recoil is still considered manageable.
    Handling:
The pistol is designed for easy handling and quick follow-up shots, even with .45 ACP.

  • Hi James and welcome. Yes, recoil will be moderate. I recommend the 185gr +P JHP for carry as it gives you the best balance of stopping power and controllable recoil: budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/181056/hornady+critical+defense+45auto+p+185gr+flex+tip+expanding+20+per+box+10+case ---------- Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!

  • Hi James, The recoil on the Smith & Wesson Performance Center SW1911 Pro .45 ACP is generally considered manageable due to its design features, such as the scandium alloy frame that helps reduce weight and improve control. Many users find it comfortable for a .45 caliber handgun, making it suitable for both experienced and novice shooters.
But, as Tom said, depends on how you feel about recoil.
Stay safe & have a great day!

  • It is a 3" barrel 1911 in 45 ACP. It will have more recoil than a 9mm for sure. Depends on how you feel about recoil.
