  • My new Beretta 92fs 9mm comes with a plastic guide rod. Would it cause problems if I replaced it with a metal guide rod. And will the metal guide rod damage other parts of the gun? Thanks

  • No, replacing the plastic guide rod of a Beretta 92FS with a steel one will not hurt other internal parts, and is generally considered a beneficial upgrade that offers increased durability and improved recoil control, with no risk to other components. The factory plastic guide rod is adequate, but a metal guide rod is preferred by many shooters for its longevity and potential to enhance performance and accuracy, especially under heavy use.
Benefits of a Metal Guide Rod:
    Durability:
Metal guide rods are more durable than their plastic counterparts, which can warp over time and with frequent shooting.
    Improved Recoil Control:
The added weight of a steel guide rod can help manage recoil, keeping the muzzle down for faster follow-up shots and improved accuracy.

  • Hi Albert, replacing the plastic guide rod in your Beretta 92FS with a metal one can enhance durability and performance.
Recoil reduction will be negligible. You won't even feel the difference.
Stay safe & have a great day!

  • Sir Albert,
Replacing your Beretta 92FS's plastic guide rod with a high-quality metal one is SAFE and common. A durable aftermarket metal guide rod offers increased strength, smoother cycling, reduced felt recoil (especially for high-volume shooters), corrosion resistance, and improved aesthetics. Reputable brands sich as NDZ Performance, M*Carbo, and Wilson Combat ensure it’s a drop-in fit that won't damage your gun, and concerns about wear on the aluminum frame are generally unfounded. The factory plastic guide rod is sufficient for normal use, so upgrading is mainly for personal preference Sir Albert.
Hope the above information helps, please take care and stay safe

  • No sir, it won't cause issues. If anything it would be an upgrade over the existing component. Happy shooting!

  • Hi Albert and welcome. Fortunately, a metal guide rod would help smoothen the recoil impulse and add significantly to the overall durability of the Beretta 92 FS. The increased weight would lessen felt recoil across the board as well. I would stick with this Beretta setup: -- beretta.com/en-us/product/92-96-solid-steel-recoil-spring-rod--stainless-steel-spring-EU00031?srsltid=AfmBOoroJSkOLy5tucYxFBBHWvhTpDKUQuCEaCuN65Gyww_lU2oQ0yyQ ------------- Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!
