  • Hello everybody, hey, I own plenty of handguns & rifles but, never purchased a revolver. Is the Rossi RM64 good enough for self & home defense? OR do you recommend something else? If so, what? Thank-You.

  • Hi David and welcome back. The RM64 in .357 will work no issue for home and self-defense. Stopping power with the right loads is no question. The question is capacity which plays a major role in today's world. Right ammo is fine, right gun is fine and the right training is fine but, you can never have too much capacity, especially with small lightweight semi-auto's with double or more capacity in 9mm and up. Not to mention the distinct advantage in reload speed via magazine change. • Good afternoon to you!! Yes, the Rossi RM64 is considered a solid and effective option for self and home defense, particularly for those seeking a reliable, straightforward, and budget-conscious firearm.
Why the Rossi RM64 is suitable for defense:
Versatile Chambering: The RM64 is chambered in .357 Magnum, which allows it to fire both powerful .357 Magnum rounds (offering significant stopping power) and lower-recoil .38 Special ammunition, making it adaptable for different situations and a range of shooters.
Reliability: Revolvers are known for their dependable function due to their simple operation, with a transfer bar safety mechanism further contributing to the RM64's safety and reliability, even under stress.
Ease of Use: Its simple double-action/single-action (DA/SA) mechanism and straightforward design make it easy to operate and maintain, which is a key advantage for new gun owners or high-stress situations.
Effective Design: The 4-inch barrel offers a good balance between accuracy and portability, while the robust steel frame construction helps manage recoil, especially with the ergonomic rubberized grips.
Proven Caliber: The .357 Magnum cartridge has a long and proven track record in law enforcement and self-defense scenarios. My wife loved her Rossi. Hope this helps. Have a good rest of your day.

    Advantages for Self-Defense
Versatility: The RM64 can fire both .357 Magnum and .38 Special rounds, allowing for a range of ammunition choices. The .38 Special is suitable for practice, while the .357 Magnum offers more stopping power for self-defense.

  • That’s a matter of preference. I like the Ruger LCR with a Green Laser.
