  • KY has very few restrictions. Walk into a KY gun store and chat them up about any questions that you may have.

  • You’d have to check your local and state laws. They can vary throughout the county. If you have any restrictions or not.

  • Kentucky Handgun and Concealed Carry Restrictions
    .
    General Handgun Ownership
Age Requirement: Individuals must be at least 21 years old to carry a concealed handgun.
Eligibility: Must be legally allowed to possess a firearm under state and federal law.
No Registration: Kentucky does not require registration for handguns.
    .
    Concealed Carry Regulations
Permitless Carry: As of June 28, 2019, individuals 21 and older can carry concealed firearms without a permit.
Location Restrictions: Concealed carry is prohibited in certain areas, including:
    Police stations and sheriff’s offices
Child care facilities and day care centers
    Airports in restricted access areas
Places where federal law prohibits firearms
Private property where firearms are banned by the owner
    .
    Concealed Carry License (CCDW)
Optional License: While a permit is not required, obtaining a CCDW license is beneficial for carrying in other states that require permits.
Training Requirement: Applicants must complete a firearms safety course approved by the state.
Renewal: CCDW licenses are valid for five years and require a background check for renewal.
    .
Open Carry: Open carry is legal for individuals 18 and older, with similar location restrictions as concealed carry.

  • Hi Lisa and welcome. Kentucky has among the least restrictive firearms laws in the United States, featuring permitless open and concealed carry for eligible individuals. Most state and local regulations on firearms are preempted by state law, but certain locations remain off-limits.
    General Carry and Possession Laws
Permitless Carry: Anyone at least 21 years old who is legally allowed to possess a firearm under state and federal law can carry a deadly weapon, openly or concealed, without a license.
Minimum Age: The minimum age to possess or transport a handgun is generally 18, with exceptions for activities like hunting or safety courses.
No Registration or Permits to Purchase: Kentucky does not require firearms to be registered, nor is a permit needed to purchase a handgun or long gun.
Background Checks: Federal law requires a background check when purchasing a firearm from a licensed dealer (FFL). Private sales are not subject to a background check requirement under state law.
Vehicle Carry: It is legal to carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle in any manufacturer-installed compartment, such as a glove box or center console. Employers and property owners cannot prohibit the legal possession of firearms in a vehicle on their property.
    Prohibited Locations
Even with legal carry status, firearms are restricted or prohibited in certain locations:
    Police or sheriff's offices
    Detention facilities, prisons, or jails
Courthouses or courtrooms. Cheers and stay safe!

  • Good evening to you!! Kentucky is a "permitless carry" state, meaning adults 21+ who can legally own a firearm can carry handguns concealed without a permit, but restrictions exist, prohibiting carry in schools, government buildings (unless exempt), courthouses, airports (secure areas), police stations, prisons, and private businesses that post "No Guns" signs. Handguns are generally unregulated for purchase or licensing, but permit holders (CCDW) get reciprocity in other states, and training proves competency.
    Handgun Restrictions (General)
No Permit to Purchase/Register: Kentucky doesn't require permits to buy or register handguns.
Age: Must be 21+ to carry concealed, though 18-20 year olds can possess but not conceal carry.
Vehicle Storage: You can keep loaded or unloaded firearms in any vehicle compartment (glove box, console, etc.) without restriction, and employers can't ban guns in vehicles on their property.
Hope this helps. Have a good rest of your day.

  • Basically, Kentucky let's you have what you want.
Kentucky is a permitless carry state for handguns, meaning adults 21+ legally allowed to own guns can carry them concealed or openly without a permit, but major restrictions exist, including prohibitions in schools, government buildings, airports, and places serving alcohol for on-site consumption, with licensed businesses also able to ban firearms. While permits aren't required for carry, the Kentucky Concealed Deadly Weapon (CCDW) license is still available for reciprocity in other states and has specific training/background requirements, but permitless carry doesn't extend out-of-state.

  • It is not listed as there is little or nothing to say. There are no restrictions on firearm types, features, or magazine capacity commonly restricted in other states. No prohibitions beyond what is prescribed under federal law. And permit-less constitutional carry was enacted in 2019, so to carry one must be 21 years old and not prohibited from possessing firearms.
