  • Why did buds gun shop deliver my shotgun shells no issues. But the same day they wouldn't leave my handgun ammo they needed a signature from a 21 year old. They have my handgun and rifle permit on file at buds I live in New Jersey but that shouldn't matter shotgun shell are still ammo I would appreciate some answers thanks.

  • I just received ammo for a handgun. Nobody had to sign for it. Left on my front porch by UPS. Must be something the left states do.

  • Federal law and courier rules dictate this difference: you must be 18 to buy rifle ammo but 21 to buy handgun ammo. Because handgun ammunition can be used in some rifles, carriers like UPS/FedEx require an Adult Signature (21+) for handgun ammo, regardless of state permits on file.
Understanding the rules and policies surrounding these shipments helps clarify the delivery discrepancies:
The 18 vs. 21 Rule: Federal law requires purchasers to be at least 18 for long gun ammunition and 21 for handgun ammunition. Carriers enforce this by applying an "Adult Signature Required" label to handgun-caliber shipments to ensure compliance.
Carrier Policy vs. Seller Policy: The signature requirement is a common carrier mandate (like FedEx or UPS), not just a rule made by Buds Gun Shop. Even if the seller has your permits on file, the delivery driver cannot legally leave the package without a signature from someone aged 21 or older.
Distributor Discrepancies: Ammo types are sometimes shipped from different warehouse facilities or third-party distributors. It is very common for the handgun ammo to have had a manual "Adult Signature" tag attached to the shipping manifest while the shotgun shells were routed separately.

  • Hi Dennis, as you know, NJ treats handgun ammo differently than other ammo. Your signature is required to make sure you are the person actually receiving the ammo. Don't blame Bud's, you can blame Murphy, Sherrill, and all the other gun grabbing vermin in this state. Bud's is only protecting itself from a lawsuit if the ammo is not actually delivered to you.
The only way to end this nonsense is to vote these anti-gunners out of office. I hope you are registered to vote, and vote accordingly when the time comes. Sorry for the rant, but as a fellow NJ resident, I am not happy with being treated like a criminal because I am pro 2A.
With all that being said, I have never had to sign for handgun ammo from Bud's, although the invoice said signature required.
It may be a UPS policy, my handgun ammo was delivered by FedEx.
Stay safe & have a great day!
