This is perfectly legal and your local ATF office can verify this. If it was ordered under "your" name, then "You" are the owner and would have to fill out paperwork to take ownership and then "Gift" it to your wife. The person receiving the gun as a gift is the actual transferee/purchaser as noted on the form. This way, as long as the intent is for the person doing the background check to receive it, all you are doing is providing the funds, and is no different from giving cash in the exact amount of the price of the gun.

No the ffl holder will transfer it to the person who purchased it from Buds IE the name on the account.
